I'm hoping someone can guide me in the right direction. I've only been working on my family history for about 5 days now and I've been able to trace back to my GGGG-grandfather Dave Jones (b. 1814) and his wife Nicie (or Nicey) Jones (b. 1820).
Now here is where I am stuck. I cant find anything about them in Hale County prior to 1870 however one thing that did stick out is that on the 1870 Census every family that is listed on the page with them - the heads of household were all from North Carolina but the children were born in Alabama. This makes me think that maybe there was a slave owner that moved from North Carolina to Alabama with his slaves.
If anyone can guide me in the right direction to either prove or disprove this theory that would be great! I'd love to be able to find marriage records but Im not sure if slaves or free slave marriages were recorded back then.
