Classification: Query
Surnames: Mashburn, Sanders, Thrower, Prince
Gillie Ellen Mashburn was born in Jackson County, Alabama, the daughter of Matthew Allen Mashburn and Eliza Jane Sanders. The 1900 census suggests she was born in April 1868 but her parents did not officially marry until June 1, 1869. Gillie married James M. Thrower October 14, 1888, and they had six children before he died between 1903 and 1910. In the 1910 and 1920 census she is listed as a widow.

The 1932 death certificate of one of her daughters, Sarah Jane Thrower Kay, identifies Sarah Jane’s mother as Ellen Thrower Prince. The 1930 census shows an Ellen Prince, age 60, married to a John Prince, age 77. I can find no other information online about this marriage of Gillie Ellen Mashburn Thrower to John Prince. When John Prince died in 1937, his death certificate shows that he was a widower, so Ellen must have died between 1932 and 1937. John Prince's first wife, who died between 1910 and 1920, was named Nancy Elizabeth. Does anyone else have further information on the marriage of Gille Ellen Mashburn and John Prince?
