I have long been looking for some information on my gr grandmother Louisa Roberson Osborn, can only find that her father's name was John J. Roberson and her mother was Ziller C. ? She married James Edmond Osborn, lived in Lawrence Co. Al. born 16 May 1861 and died 11 mar. 1900. She and her mother are buried in Center Church Cemetery in Lawrence Co. Al.
We have been told that her father disappeared during the Civil war and was never heard from again. If you come across her in your Roberson family I would appreciate any info you could give me. Thanks Shirley Blankenship (Morgan Family Tree)

Ollis and Lena Parker

I'm hoping someone can help me identify the family and ancestors of Lena Parker (2/8/1891-11/16/1981), wife of Ollis Parker (9/3/1888-4/2/1928). I think her maiden name was Lena Harrison. Information found in the 1900 Lawrence County Census shows a head of household as a possible George Harrison. (The first name was written over and can't be seen clearly on the document) A younger daughter was listed in the census as Ellena, born in February of 1891. I really think this could be her. Does anyone have any information on the Harrison family and know if this is the correct family? Ollis and Lena Parker were my great-grandparents and I would appreciate any information on her side of the family. They are buried in the Providence Cemetery. Especially, any names and burial information on the Harrison Family would be helpful. Thank you for any information. Connie Parker Allen

Clarks with my tree but have often wondered if we are related. Do you show John Henry Clark, born 1822 in your tree? He also had a son named John Henry Clark, Jr born 1867 in Madison County, AL.
I am interested in more info and am willing to share mine.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Doug Clark, New Market, AL

I totally agree with your theory concerning Thomas Sparks and Ruthy White Sparks. I live near the cemetery where she is buried and my grandfather's brother (now deceased) told me that she had such hard feelings toward Thomas that she had instructed the family that she did not want to "be buried under his name". Her tombstone reads "Ruth White, wife of Thomas Sparks, settled here 1856". On the 1850 Lawrence County, Al census, Thomas and Julina are listed as head of his family, living next door to Ruthy Sparks, also listed as head of her family. Thomas and Julina had two sons listed with them. They would be the right age to serve in either the Union or Confederate Army by 1862. A friend who was also searching the records of Thomas Sparks, told me some years ago that she had a letter from a man in Lawrence County, Al., who was a descendent of Julina McWhorter, and that when she died, about 1856-58 that Thomas was so devastated that he and his sons moved to either Texas or to Arkansas. Since his daughter, Nancy Susannah married Hugh McVay and moved to Aarkansas, I have meant to search the records there to see if I could find a listing for his sons in either army in 1862. I do not have a copy of the 1850 Lawrence County, Al census, and have not done this research . I have several listings that I have collected from the court records in Lawrence County that date well into the 1850's. One is of him settling the estate of Moses Looney, who had lived in the same district (Oakleigh) as Thomas, and had homesteaded land nearby. Another concerned John Kitchens who settled in the same area, and who "went on his bond" when he was a Justice of the Peace. So I have never believed that he died about 1840, since I found all these records. There is also a record of him selling the property where he and Ruthey settled to Hugh McVay around 1850. So everything to me bears out the fact that they are one and the same.

It is my belief that Thomas Sparks left Rutha White about 1836 and started a second family with one Julina McWhorter. Thomas Sparks who married Julina McWhorter was the son of John Sparks and Sarah Tickel of Morgan County, Ga. In GEORGIA INTESTATE RECORDS I found a Samuel White, deceased 1810, wife Ann, children William, Mary, Jiney and RUTHEY! This was in Jasper County, Ga which borders Morgan County. In 1820 Ann White married one J M Speck in Lawrence County, Al. This is surely the parents of our Rutha White Sparks. I have been in contact with a descendant in the line of Julina McWhorter and she is mad because I am pursuing this theory. I don't think she would be mad about it if she didn't know or fear I am right about these two Thomas Sparkses being one and the same. Can you help with this mystery of the two Thomas Sparkses of Lawrence County, Al? After the death of Julina McWhorter, Thomas Sparks went to McLennan County, Texas. Don't know if he died there or if he returned to Alabama.

Hi there,
I know you posted the comments a good 10 years ago, but my name is Richard Stinson.. Grandson of Clarence Prince Sparks. I do recall having a aunt Ruthy(she obviously would have been my great aunt), only thing is I can't remember if Aunt Ruthy was on my Grandpa's side or Gramma's. Anywho, you're on the trail of my family lineage too. If you look at my family tree it's all the same, but I can't find any solid information prior to John and Sarah Tickel Sparks. Feel free to cross compare and fill in any possible blanks off my tree. All my information is from the Sparks Family Assoc., Ancestry.com and what my Grandpa told me when I was younger.

Take care,
Rich

I am the great grandaughter of Henry Stokes(1865-1931) My grandmother was Rachael Adaline Stokes. On Henry Stokes' death certificate his mother was listed as Ghist. About 15 years ago someone had told me that was wrong. It was Pace. I think you have cleared it up. I have an old picture of my Stokes. I don't know how well it will scan. It's alot of people and kids, standing in front of an old farm house. Some are on horses and holding shot guns. The only one I know is my grandmother.

Hello family,
I have been researching our Barnes roots for about a year. Lamar County, Alabama was split for a very short period of time and I believe portions of the county was Lawrence county. I am the great grandaughter of William "Art" Barnes and my grandaddy Alvertis was his oldest child.(past last Jan.). My great uncle George Henry Barnes has provided a wealth of information and important dates. He is named after both George Barnes and my great grandmother's dad.We need to get in contact and share our findings. I think I recall Uncle George speaking of Elijah. We recorded a DVD for the Barnes reunion 2011.

Seeking any history concerning Bell Tavern. I have an interest in the tavern because my great-uncle and aunt, James Zadie Waldrop and Annie May Bearden, were joined in marriage at the tavern in March 1908. I am assuming the tavern was an inn or motel as we would refer to it today. In accommodating guests staying there, did the tavern also serve liquor? Was it located near the courthouse square in Moulton or outside town? Any information would very much be appreciated.
