I am trying to find the parents of James Elbert BRYAN, born 1821 GA died 1857 in Jackson Co. LA .

James was born ca 1821 GA. He married Charity Jay, b. 1818, d.1857, in Lowndes County AL 1835 and had a number of children, one my ggrandfather Nicholas BRYAN, b.1846 AL, d. 1934 TX.
I suspect James's father was Waid (or Wade) Anderson Bryan, b. abt 1792 in SC, married Sarah. Waid died 1846 in Jackson Parish, LA.
A Nicholas Bryan, shown in the 1830 Lowndes Co. AL census living next to Wade is another possibility for James's father. Nicholas seems to have died in Lowndes or Butler Co. AL abt 1830/40.

William H. Bryan, b abt 1823 AL d 1866 LA, possibly a son of Henry Bryan b abt 1790, was releated to James Elbert.

Waid and a lot of other Bryan's moved into the Lowndes Co. AL area in the 1820's and 30's and bought land there. Initially they were in an area about two miles north of Hayneville, then were in an area just south of the Lowndes/Butler co. line. They were associated with the Hillburn, Griggs, Roper, and Jay families.

Any info appreciated, Frank Goodwin Bryan, fbryan@cfl.rr.com
