Old man Wilson and his son, Reuben, built the first mill on Walnut Creek, erected in that section. One day Reuben was tending to the mill, he was lying down, his dog near him and his bear rifle in easy reach. The first thing he knew a large panther sprang on the dog and hair and blood flew. Reuben seized his gun and killed the varmint.

"Samuel WILSON, one of the oldest natives of the county, died at his home near Mincher's Bridge, last Tuesday and was buried Wed. He was one of the substantial hones citizens of his neighborhood. Respected by all who knew him. He had raised a number of sons and daughters who are esteemed in this section.
Mr. Wilson was about 76 yrs. old, and was, we understnad, a Primitive Baptist in his belief, but is he had ever affiliated with the church we are not informed."
