This Hugh Gilmore Sr. was the son of Stephen Gilmore and (--) Taunton, daughter of Nathan Taunton (b. before 1775) of Wilkinson/Crawford Co., GA. Stephen Gilmore died in 1827 in Crawford Co., GA, and Hugh, Archibald, and Nathaniel Gilmore first were placed under the guardianship of their maternal grandfather, Nathan Taunton. Nathan died in Crawford Co., GA in 1829, and his son Henry Taunton (the Gilmore children's uncle) was then named the children's guardian in Crawford Co., GA. It's interesting that the Pike Co., AL estate books show that George Gilmore was named the children's guardian there in 1831, since back in Crawford Co., GA, Henry Taunton was still conducting business on their behalf as late as Sept. 1832.

I'd love to hear from anyone descended from these Gilmores, as I have quite a bit of info on their Taunton ancestors.
