Texas ties to Randolph County, Alabama families

Hi all...

Posted you will find individuals buried in Texas or children who list their parents with Randolph County ties at some time. This list was created from the pilot search from Family Search Organization database entitled "Texas Deaths, 1890-1976" and the criteria was "Randolph, Alabama, United States" in the box entitled Place. I can only assume that Randolph County shows up somewhere on each death certificate as these are not my family (thus far - smile).
The death certificates are online and often "jam packed" with wonderful data. I'm sure that consistant with many "Death Records" there are mistakes in reporting by the living individuals and additional mistakes made by
transcribers. Oh, I've not spell checked the list as it is Java based, so correct any typos on my part also! (big grin) Please use the link below and elaborate if you find a relative in this database and "POST" the corrections and/or the image. The first name is always the deceased individual and other names are parents. Unknown individuals are marked as "unknown," "NK" or left blank. Dates have been removed in case there are living individuals represented. Another suggestion, if you have "folks" that came to Texas this is a great database and many records weren't transcribed even though the information is more complete. There are numerous ways to search this database. Try this one, it's great!!!

Deb---

http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=0

----- records begin below -----

Cole Acker
Arthur W Acker
Maggie Hackney

Burton Samuel Banks
Parents
Harvey Banks
Elmira Grant

Roland Lynn Fountain
Parents
Henry Fountain
Elizabeth Dargan

Samuel Irvin Lee
George Lee
Eliza Barron

Robert E Gay
Joe Gay
Jane O'neal

James Young Foster
Balus Foster
Mary Shaver

Nannie Jane Kitchens
J.W.
I am looking for info on my gggrandfather J Tony Meacham, born Feb 1876 in GA, died 1908 Randolph Co, AL, and married my gggrandmother Effie Barfield (later Reeves) about 1897. They had the following children Mattie, Annie, Rufus, James, Minnie (my ggrandmother) and Samuel. At this point his first name is just an educated guess so any info would be great.

Elvira was married to David M."Joe" Green until his death in the Civil War. They had a son, William Green. She married Demps Barnes in 1865. In the 1870 Randolph County census are Demps, Elviry, son James Wyatt Barnes, daughter Ella Zoe Barnes, and stepson, William Green. Does anyone know who Demps parents were? In searching surrounding counties, I find in Talladega County in the 1860 census a possiblity in D. T. Barnes (age49) and wife M. Barnes (45).
Their oldest child at home is 16. In 1860, Demps would have been about 20 and could have already left home. Does anyone know anything about these Barnes families?

I'm looking through the 1860 Census records of Randolph Co., Alabama. I keep seeing "DH Wife" or "DHW" listed as the occupation of many of the wives. Maybe DHW stands for something obvious, but I'm having trouble figuring it out and I've yet to find anything online about it.

Any ideas??

Jared

Any descendants out there from John Gravet and wife, Elizabeth Gentry from Forsyth Co, Ga..moved to Randolph after 1850? I descend through their son:

Sanford R. Gravette and wife Emily Mitchell. Sanford was born in 1834 GA and died August 13,1864 AL. He served in Co F. 22nd AL CSA. It is said that he was shot by a neighbor for dessertion. Are there any newspaper there for that date that might have an article on this? Also, I know nothing of Emily Mitchell's parents. Does anyone have an Emily Mitchell that was born August 1834 in GA? I remember Grandma mentioning Crenshaw County as being where they came from.

HUFFMAN - LAMB Families of Randolph County

William HUFFMAN was listed in the 1840 Census - Randolph County AL. Also listed in this census were the following LAMBS: Nicholas, Joshua, John, Green, and William. The LAMB families moved to Choctaw Cty, MS by 1850.

In the 1850 Census for Choctaw County, MS these HUFFMAN children were in the households of Nicholas LAMB: Green and Joshua (Huffman) and Joshua LAMB: Martha, Tempy, and John (Huffman).

Also, there is a Martha, age 40, in the 1850 Nicholas LAMB household. Was this the wife of William Huffman? Looking for any marriage record for William HUFFMAN.

The 1860 Choctaw Cty MS Census shows William HUFFMAN with these same children: Martha, Temperence, John, and Joshua. No wife was listed. Green HUFFMAN was listed in his own household.

Any information to clarify this Huffman - Lamb connection would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Sandra

He married Rose Bye, I believe in the Tuscola County area of Michigan around 1900.

Nov 1903 in The Cass City Chronicle there was something printing about a court case about Chester's having gone missing.

In 1910 both Chester and Rose show up in the census as living in Current River or Biggerstown, Randolph Co., Arkansas, they had been married 10 years.

In 1918 according to his WWI draft card, Chester and Rose were living in West Point, Virginia.

After this I don't know what happened to him. Rose eventually moved back to Michigan and remarried in 1935.

I'm guessing Chester died, but I have no proof. But they could have divorced and gone their separate ways.

Does anyone know what happened to him?

James Hobbs / Ed Hobbs / Willie Hobbs / Hobs

I'm desperately trying to find information on my grandfather's side of the family. My GF was Willie Hobbs aka W H Hobbs although he had no middle name the family, as it was common to do back then...used the last name as the middle initial. His father was Ed Hobbs or E Hobs aka Edward Hobbs. Ed was originally from Georgia as were his parents and he was killed by a train October 21, 1911 here in Houston county; Dothan, AL. His funeral was conducted at Selma Baptist but they have no records of anything. Ed was married to a May-Lula (we were always told her name was Mary) on the 1910 census and had stepchildren of "Tenley" although their names were Andrew aka Ander and Noah Finely / Fenley. Ed apparently had a son named James (grown child and perhaps he is the son listed on the 1910 census. Nontheless....I've been going in circles for YEARS and finding no one with any information.

Any one out there with the answers would be appreciated!

I am researching Belchers in Troup, Randolph, and Chambers Co. Does anyone know about Belchers who lived in and around Rock Mills. Two Obediah Belchers, two Sarah Belchers, and an Edmund Belcher all show on the 1860 Census in Rock Mills. I think my ggggrandfather was an Obediah Belcher (1776) who likely moved into Rock Mills from Troup Co between 1850 and 1860.

There is a possibility there might be some grave sites in the woods around Rock Mills. Does anyone know anything about these Belchers? I am already pretty familiar with Belchers in Roanoke and Five Points in Chambers Co., but nothing regarding Belchers in Rock Mills.

Somewhere in Randolph Co, there is a missing Belcher graveyard and I hope it has not been turned under.

Any info would be welcomed!

WTB3
