Jonathan Campbell and Martha Ann (Annie) Hill were the parents of Griffin Young Campbell. They were living in Sumter Co., AL in 1851, where he was born. There were five other children, Richard, William, Clay, Mary, and Sally. Don' know the order of the births or if Jonathan was the father of all. Martha was married to James Hayes by 1860. The 1860 census only listed Griffin, William, and Clay. Martha was Irish-Indian. some sources say Cherokee. Others think she was Chickasaw. She and Second husband, James M. Hayes, owned and operated a farm in Choctaw Co., MS, near Tomnolen, during the 1860s. The home was still standing as late as the 1920s. This information was given to me by a cousin that lives in San Marcos, TX. She doesn't have a pc, but she researches in libraries.
