Douglas: I may be wrong, but I think ALL Broadways are related. There is also a trace of Indian ancestry and have found many black Broadway families. My grandfather told me that the Broadways originated in Virginia. How they migrated to other states is another quandary. Possibly migrated from Virginia through the Carolinas, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana and finally Texas (where we are). They are also in Pennsylvania and other Eastern states and Canada. Seems they did a lot of traveling. My sister wrote from the tales handed down by great aunts (told my their grand-fathers) and that's about all we have. It's listed in Vol.I of History of Shelby County Texas 1988 Commission.
Let's see how far we can go? My great-grandmother was Louisiana Catherine "Lizzie" Hughes (some say related to Howard), Her mother and father were James M. (McCain)Hughes and Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Samford if this is any help. Let me know. I found a cousin that is the grand-daughter of my grandfather's sister Kate. Isn't that interesting? It's like a detective story in itself.
