Is there anyone out there who could help me with James B. or Sanford Heaton Families? They were sons of David & Winny Heaton who lived in Calhoun and Talladega County, AL.

James B. Heaton's wife, Lucinda Taylor was the daughter of Casper Taylor and Dicey Unknown. Casper's father was George Taylor. Casper had 3 brothers who were ministers: Isaac, William, and Harris. He had 3 sisters: Mary Taylor who married Darby Turner; Catherine Taylor who married Eli jah Self and Rebecca Caroline Taylor who married Pleasant B. Ware.

Daniel Brigman was married to Gincy Caroline Honeycutt. They were on the 1850 Talladega Co., AL Census with daughters Sarah, who married Benjamin Cardwell; Mary Ann who married Joseph B. Riddle in Talladega Co.,AL: Amanda Caroline who married John T. Veitch in Talladega Co., AL; A son, Franklin Brigman who married Mary L. Shultz in Talladega Co., AL. Does anyone have info on Daniel or any of his children? Does anyone know who Daniel's father was?
Does anyone know who Gincy Caroline Honeycutt's parents were?

Searching for info on Cynthia Bush who married Alexander Perry Hill 09 Mar 1836 in Talladega Co., AL. Alexander Perry Hill's parents were John HIll and Margaret "Peggy" Stover. Cynthia's parents may have been John and Mary Bush.

Samuel CLARK family

In the 1850 census for Talladega County, AL, on page 4ll it lists the family of Samuel CLARK born 1798 GA and his wife Louisa born 1815 NC. There are six children listed(the first two born in GA and the others in AL)born between 1838 & 1849: D. Ann, Marion(male), Rebecca,Sarah,Jasper and Israel.

The daughter Sarah born 1844 in AL I believe to be my GGGM.
She was married to William Meredith Ponder born 1841 in Benton County,AL. They were a married couple in the Talladega County census for 1860. After the Civil War they migrated into Pike County, AR where Sarah died in 1882 after giving birth to six children.

Is there any one who has information on this Clark family and/or the family of William Meredith Ponder and wife Sarah Clark? All assistance gratefully accepted.

Uriah “Rye” V. Thomas was born in February 1861 in Talladega County, Alabama, and died on April 26, 1929, in Haskell County, Texas. He married Sarah “Sallie” Exar Hassell on September 11, 1891, in Clay County, Alabama. Sallie was born in February 1867, in either Talladega or Clay County, Alabama, and died about 1930 in Texas. There were five sons from this union: David Hezekiah, born October 31, 1882; William U., born January 1885; Edgar Newell, born July 22, 1887; James D., born April 1892, and Charlie Austin, born September 6, 1894. Rye Thomas and his family left Clay County, Alabama, between the 1910 and 1920 census and moved to Haskell County, Texas. I am would appreciate any information on this family, especially the children.

My Great, Great, Great grandfather was Rueben Downing born abt.1827 married an Eliza Hampton from Virginia. They also lived in Georgia,Louisiana and Oklahoma(other places I don't know). Some of their children -Alexander,Zebede,Elias,Cora,Lizzie and Melvina were born in Georgia, Marion was born in Louisiana, Alsea born in Oklahoma. They all lived in Oklahoma. Alexander was my great great grandfatherand his son Alexander, jr. was my great grandfather. If I could get any information I would appreciate it. If you need more information I can get that.

I am looking for parents of Demps Barnes in the Chambers, Randolph and surrounding counties. He was born about 1840 and found in the 1870 Randolph County census and the 1880 Chamber County census. I have not been able to find his parents names. I did find in Talladega County in 1860
D. T. Barnes, age 49 and M. Barnes age 45. their oldest child at home was E. Barnes, age 16. If Demps was part of this family, he would have been old enough to be on his own.

Lets set the record right: Nancy Lee Richads my grandma was not married or was never married to:Roy Abshear or William E. Parker. she had 5 girls Beulah,Delia,Rene,Ruby June and Gladys all Manning's. She was Married to Frank Perry Manning,Ben Parker,and Frank Morris. Gladys (my mom) is the last of the Mannings born to Frank Manning and grandama. Nancy had I believe had 5 or 6 childen by Ben Parker. One is still living Niles Parker. If anyone has a photo of Frank Perry Manning I would love a copy. Mom was 6 or 7 when he passed and would love to be able to show her what he looked like. she is 88 and can not remember.

George Anderson and Nancy Kelly

Looking for any information regarding George Anderson (1812 - 1863) married to Nancy Kelly (1813 - 1867). THey were Muscogee, reportedly were born and lived in Alabama, removed prior to forced emigration. In Creek Nation West, settled in Concharty town (near what is now Okmulgee, OK), so I am guessing they lived in Conchardee town in what is now Talladega County, AL prior to removal. They were both at least 1/2 blood, but judging from names had mixed heritage. I have good information after removal, but nothing prior. Any help appreciated.

Marriages in Talladgea county were Malberry married Louisa WHALEN in 1871 and Julia who married Nathaniel W. ROCHESTER.
Family moved to Jefferson Co AL about 1874.

Hey Bill, you are kin to Lewis Hobbs who came to Talladega about 1830's to settle his father, William Hobbs, estate.
Your William Hobbs is from Sampson Co., NC.and all that group of Hobbs. Lewis and all his children, etc. moved on to Van Zandt Co., Texas. My kin, Solomon Hobbs, had a son,
John M.D,(or N)Hobbs moved from Monroe Co., Ga to Van Zandt Co., Texas. I have been contacted by these kin, last year.

My Hobbs that came to Talladega Co., Ala in late 1830's is
Charles Newton Hobbs, Sr.(had 1 wife Rebecca Tomlinson and a bunch of kids), William H. "Billy" Hobbs, his brother, had 3 wives and a lot of children). Thomas Hobbs, b. 1823, another brother came about 1860, Brother Solomon Hobbs (wife was Malinda Davis) a lot of kids, stayed in Monroe Co., GA. their father was George Hobbs who was born Wake Co., NC abt.1782 whose wife is Mary/Lydia , who moved to Monroe Co. GA in early 1812 era. George moved to Talledaga/Clay Co. in about 1850-6-'s after wife died. Sister, Elizabeth Hobbs Arnold, b. 1809 SC, Sisters Rebecca and apparently Mary came with George to Clay Co. George died about 1870 or before. Rebecca returned to Monroe Co., GA, and lived with Solomo' family. I think but not sure that sister, Mary Hobbs, stayed in Clay Co. Ala. I think the children "Newton" and "Callie/Sallie" were Mary's children. (This NEWTON just may be the younger "Charles Newton Hobbs" that moved on to Tennessee, I do not know if this is right.)
There is a sister, Mary in the Census, just do not have proof that it is her. Thomas married Ann Goodwin in Troup Co., GA went on to Jackson Co., LA, then came back to Clay Co., Ala. for 1860 Census.
Solomon's son George Franklin "Dock" Hobbs, son of Solomon came to Clay Co., Ala. about 1850 era. George Thomas Hobbs is the son of my Charles Newton Hobbs, Sr.

One of the people on the Message board has my Hobbs line back into the 1600's in Virginia. I have been off genealogy for about a year or more, YOUR email address has changed since 2002, the last time I got a message from you, evidently.

I am trying to assemble my Dodson, family, still. Does anyone actually have the pension papers for Lazarus D. Dodson that he reportedly filed in New Albany Indiana in 1894 for his service in the Civil War. I'd love to have a copy or at least a transcription. If not, does anyone know how to go about getting them. I've checked at ancestry and they only show one Lazarus Dodson serving in the war and it's obviously not him.

Lucile (my husband's grandmother) was born in approximately 1897 in Clay county, Alabama. She married Marshall Vinson BOLAN, only son of Robert Bolan and Tempa Ann MITCHUM. My gma Ollie Victoria Pilgrim is standing with two women on a family get together. Ollie is in the middle.Back says "Manie & me & manie's mother pruit. "all men ded". This is two photo's taken at the same time dated 1941. Other is a gathering at the table outside with children around waiting to eat last. I have a tree with these pics loaded on. I am looking for information on John L. Burk born 1810 S.C.
His wife Dicey Awtry born abt.1811 Ga. They were not found after 1860 Tallapoosa Co. their children have been found mainly in Talladega Co. after 1860.

Their son Francis Marion Burk born 1837-1901 Wife Salie E. born 1838 died after 1880 before 1884. Could be buried in the Ironaton area Talladega County or possible Pleasant Grove Baptist Ch. Cem. off of Stemley Bridge Road.

John William Burk b. 1854 and wife Laurana N. both died within two months of each other in their early thirties in 1891, I would like to find what they died from. They are buried in Fayetteville Al.

children - Mineola who died within a month of her parents Sept. 1891 age 13, son Alphonso born 1880 no record on him, daughter Bessie Burk who was adopted by William Lane then later Turner Ogletree who is the husband of her aunt, Mary Caroline Burke (Molly)of Sylacauga, Al.
Bessie Burk married T.Ray Schulz and lived in Birmingham.

I am searching for info on Delia Burk real name, Cordelia N. Burk/Burke born around 1858.

On May 12, 2003, for the first time I decided to post my 14 years of research on the Jemison family of Talladega AL It went in and was the only one in there for Shadrach Mims Jemison. A few days ago I went into my site. Lo and behold there were two postings for him My first thought was they had posted my work twice but when I clicked on the second Shadrach Mims Jemison my work came up with an e-mail address. I e-mailed that address twice and they bounced as a false e-mail. I, so far as I know, is the last descendant of my father's life who knows the sad storyof Papa's life.It would make a terrific book with all the notes I have in it. I wondered ,if that(whoever he is )will do that. I have reported it with false e-mail to Ancestry.com The fraudulent e-mail is jimmy4cb@comcast.net , so watch out for whoever this guy is. On page it said Bledsoe Family page. I went into that and their is not a single name in this Jemison family in it. I hope whoever has the Bledsoe family home page will see this also.

My g-g-g grandfather was born in Yufala in 1853 or 1856. Today I found his mom's tombstone and she was named Harriet E. ??? Her husband's name is M.S. Clark. No idea for sure what the M.S. stands for but I very much think it stands for Marion as that is an incredibly common name for this family.

My g-g-g grandpa was James M. (prob. Marion) and his son was William Marion.

Does any Clark researcher have an M.S. in their files?

I have a gg-gradfather named Moses Brasher. He lived primarily in Shelby County. In 1837, Moses got some land in Talladega County with some relatives by the name of Thomas R. Brasher and Henry Brasher. Moses later got land in Shelby County in 1858. Moses' children joined the CSA in Talladega County in 1861. The 1850 census in Shelby County does not list Moses Brasher at all. I was wondering if someone could find him in the 1850 census in Talladega County? Or better yet, any information about these three Brashers in Talladega County would be great.

I would like to exchange information with descendants of Henry H. “Hawk” Howard (b. ca. 1863) of Sylacauga. His first wife, Louvisa Smith Howard (b. 1867) was a sister to my 2x great grandmother, Sarah Sadeania Smith Mathews of Chambers County, AL.

Census records suggest Henry H. "Hawk" Howard was born ca. 1863 in Alabama, the son of Henry H. and G. A. M. Howard of Chambers County. During the 1890s he married Miss Louvisa (Louvicey) Smith, the daughter of West Goodrich Smith and Jane Shank (my ancestors) of Chambers. Louvisa died early, in 1891, and was buried at the Smith family cemetery, in Chambers County, AL.

Circa 1903, Hawk Howard married Miss I. Ola / Ora Moody (b. Oct. 1878, AL), daughter of William and Ellana Moody of Talladega, AL. The couple live in Sylacauga, where Howard was a furniture dealer and undertaker.

Julia Paralee Riser (1901-1990)

I am writing a collective biography of the 169 librarians who headed neighborhood branches of the New York Public Library (NYPL), 1901-1950.

One of them was Julia P. Riser (1901-1990) who was originally from Birmingham AL. She graduated from the University of Alabama in 1924, worked at the Birmingham Public Library (1926-1928) and then worked at NYPL, (1929-1948). She was also very active in Alpha Gamnma Delta over the years. When Riser left NYPL it was reported that she was moving to her new home in Talladega AL. I also know that she was librarian at the Alabama School for the Deaf in 1966-1970.

The SS Death Index indicates that Riser died on June 10, 1990 but does give the location.

Does anyone have information additional on Julia Riser or have suggestions on how I might obtain an obituary?

Oak Hill Burial Plot?

I visited Talladega this weekend and took a few pictures in Oak Hill Cemetery. This is a huge cemetery! I wondered if anyone could help guide me towards a burial plot of where people are buried in the cemetery?

I know of and have access to the tombstone record books of Talladega (one by Lutrell and the other by Upchurch), so don't need information on those. I would like to know WHERE people are buried to make it easier next time I go.

Lets talk about our successes using this and other resources for finding Talledega Cty connections. I have found a grandaughter to my husband's uncle through a mattison surname search. It turns out that his aunt had left a white family and when she married into my husbands family of black heritage it became a secret and all the new family was that her family had cut her off. No one knew she had other children. We are now hoping to help connect everyone. We know the aunt was alive a few years ago and that there are living children of the second marriage. Have not been able to connect them yet. It is wonderful that the Internet has been able to connect families again.

On Nov. 20, 1863 in Talladega Co, Al. - Joshua Horn applied for guardianship for the minor heirs, being under age 14, of Jackson Kirkpatrick. He declared that both parents were dead and that he was the grandfather of the two boys. Their names were Washington and Andrew Lee. He put up $300 and was appointed guardian of the boys.

I am looking for any information/leads on my great-great grandfather, Thomas William Turner. Family bible lists his name as William Turner, but his marriage certificate to Sarah Ann Alford gives name as Thomas W. Turner.

I have almost nothing to go on in this search. He married Sarah in March 1856, but she was alone with the children in the 1860 census, so I'm presuming he died prior to that date. Children are Joseph Alden Turner (born 1857) and Mary Wellington "Mollie" Turner (born 1859).

Sarah was from Etowah County, not Talladega, so I'm inclined to believe William was already living in Talladega prior to their marriage. Any clues as to where William came from and who his family was (other than Sarah and the children) would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone have information on Asa Trammel who lived in Taladega Co., AL starting in 1830/40. Who were his siblings?
John, Nancy, Betsy, Asa, Alford? Was his father Dennis B. Trammel who died in Hancock Co., Ga in 1807. Any information about him appreciated. I believe he was a brother to my Alford Trammel. Is he listed on the 1830/40 Census? Who were his children? Thank you.
