Sorry, am a little late joining this dialog. Am desperately seeking definitive PROOF (birth record, death cert with parents listed, etc), not circumstantial, that my gr-gr-grandfather William Randall Hill (b. 1850) is son of Alexander Perry Hill (m. Cynthia Bush). Circumstantial evidence exists via US Federal Censuses for 1860--a Randall listed in Alexander/Cyntha Hill household; 1870--Alexander/Cyntha household in same district/close geographic proximity to household of Ellen Nora McGuire (the future Mrs. William Randall Hill); 1880--Wm. & Alexander households very close in geographic proximity. My Grandfather George Douglas Hill (b. 1872) is son of William Randall Hill. Also, how many and what are names of siblings of Alexander Perry Hill?

I think that I have made a connection to this family through my great-great grandmother Martha Cornelia (Anderson) Coker. I believe that she is the daughter of George and Narcissa. The Coker family bible and her tombstone list her birthdate as January 8, 1852, although I have also been told that this date is incorrect. She married Lewis Cass Coker on April 25, 1874, and died November 2, 1938 in Cherokee County, Alabama. Older family members remember that she came from Clay County, Alabama, which is adjacent to Talladega County, where the George Anderson family lived. Feel free to email me privately at Jjordan90@aol.com. I am very interested in doing more work on this particular family.

Seeking information on my grandfathers (Harvey Hester) brother. John R Hester born: May 1889 Alabama. He is listed on the 1900 census for Wood County, Texas as John R Hesten(Hester) age 11 and on the 1910 census for Mandeville, Carroll Co., Georgia age 21. I think he must have married and live in Georgia and the rest of the family moved to Alabama which was his fathers (John W Hester) birth place. I would like to know who he married, his burial place and did he have children which would be my cousins. Any information would be appreciated. Rebecca Hester-Vining

I recently had the same problem up in Pickens County with an old family cemetery. I went to the former mayor who loves genealogy and he got a group together and cleaned it up. I would suggest you start first with the local mayor. Even Boy Scout troops will clean them up if you can get a Scout Master that is interested.

Index to 1833-1846 marriages

Last weekend during a visit to Talladega, I photocopied the index to a book that contained a transcription of Talladega county marriages from 1833-1846. I share the PDF of that index here in case it is helpful to others.

I do not have access to the book anymore, so if there is an item of interest, my suggestion would be to contact the Talladega Public Library to inquire about their procedures for requesting a photocopy of the marriage of interest.

You can see the index at http://www.scribd.com/doc/18395043.
Taneya
My Genealogy Blog - http://www.taneya-kalonji.com/genblog

I believe their mother's name was Martha and that her and George possibly never married. I know this isn't much to go on but that is all I have at the present time.
Sparks-Macoy Family Reunion

SPARKS-MACOY FAMILY GATHERING
AT CRAGFORD, ALABAMA

Descendants and friends of the Dennis McFranklin Sparks and Julia Ann Macoy family will meet on Saturday, September 19, 2009, at the Cragford Community Center (old Cragford School House) in Clay County, Alabama, for their ninth annual reunion. The reunion will start at 10:00 a.m. and last until everyone gets ready to go home.

Dennis and Julia were married on November 11, 1866, in Randolph County (now Clay County), ALABAMA. Dennis and Julia raised a large family. Of their sixteen children, eleven raised families of their own. This branch of the Sparks family left England in the 1600’s and settled in the State of Maryland. By the mid-1700’s, part of the family had relocated to the forks of the Yadkin River in North Carolina. Some family members migrated into Georgia in the early 1800’s. And by the mid-1800’s, the family had settled in those areas of Randolph and Talladega Counties that later became Clay County.

A covered dish lunch will be served at noon. Bring enough food for your family plus a little extra. Also bring copies of old family recipes, songs, stories, pictures and anything else that might be of interest to others and contribute to the Sparks family history. In past years, relatives from several states attended the reunion. A large turnout is anticipated this year. If you have any questions about the reunion, please contact Ed Sparks at 256-396-5950 or Carl Burdette at 770-271-1283 or burdette@mindspring.com.

Hi Chester, I to have family who were born in S.C. supposedly. I found my gggrandfather, Eli Morris in the 1850 census in Coffee county Al. I know that Coffee county is a stretch from Talladaga but I have been unable to connect with anyone anywhere. Eli and wife Margaret Hardy had the following children; Thomas, Alexander Giels, Peter, Levi, William, Eli, and Henry. We have connections to Carden, Evans, Thompson, and Hardy. If you would please check and see it their is any connection I would be very grateful.

Talledega County, Alabama being not far removed from Tallapoosa County, Alabama, I wonder if you have information on the Parks family from there? My great-grandfather, Andrew Jackson Parks, migrated there in the mid-1800's and produced quite a few Parkses. I have a good deal of information on that family if you are interested and would like to know if you have any information beyond Andrew. Have not been able to find who his parents were.
