Ordering records from Bryce Hospital/Alabama Home for the Insane from 1870-1893

A GG Grandmother of mine is Mary Elizabeth Turner Frank. She was born and raised in the Mobile area, married in 1860 to Capt Thomas Jefferson Frank, had at least 4 children ( the last died in infancy around 1868).

While trying to locate her in a 1870 or 1880 census, I learned that she became a patient of this hospital, I assume she died there in 1893. He extended family must have attended to her because she is buried in a family plot in Minneapolis.

In any case since the family NEVER shared this detail about Mary, I was contemplating ordering copies of what records they have for her. Has anyone had luck with gaining access to records so far back and are they sticklers for proving next of kin. I know I am but with lack of records, cant really prove it.

Also, who would have paid for her care at the time??? Family, government, state???

Thanks for any direction and information,
