Martha, you are so right and thank you for pointing this out. In my defense I used the info sent by someone else and just changed the wording a bit; didn't even notice the fee error on the email.
I doubt the AGS board will find it necessary to re-send and I will certainly be more careful for the next seminar.

Caroline
AGS Recording Secretary

You may find obit at library on microfilm. or you could try asking someone at library will they do lookup for you since you have the exact death date. If you don't find your answer there, at the Alabama Archives in Montgomery. they have 1925 newspapers called Washington County News.

Good luck on your research.

I don't
know when Wm and Frances separated but, those younger children were born 1901 & 1905, and he has lived with two other women and had, at least two more chidren...by the time he died in 1919.

Thank you so much! Yes, have Wm's death cert., ruptured appendix, no parent's names or wife's name. Died in Chairty Hospital in New Orleans. My question was, who were the two women that he lived with...Mattie Rose ? (what was her last name) and Callie E. Dearmon. Were they married to him or just common-law? Anything about them would be appreciated! Really appreciate the info on Wm's parents...knew it was Sarah ? and am working on her...But, thought Wm's father was Peter Loper...thanks, now have more search options! Recently found picture of Wm's tomb on Find-a-grave.

anyone have any idea how i might find an obit from 1925. Mary Alice Irby died April 24, 1925 and death certificate says buried on April 25, 1925 in Frankville, Al but does not identify cemetery. She does not appear to be buried with her husband, Silas J. Irby, who is buried at Three Forks in Bigbee unless her grave in not marked. I hope to find an obituary as it might identify the cemetery in which she is buried.
you may have your answer, by now...if not find out where the paper was printed. Some of the smaller papers, were actually printed in larger towns, close by. The paper may still be in print...And, if closed, they would be housed in a library, possibly local or the state capital. Good luck. I'd love to have copies of these!

There is a post, after your post, that someone has two pictures of group of children from the Omega school. He has names that are on the picture, and the second picture has most of the same children, just a different year in school.
Don't think it is of the school building. Probably, taken outside, on school grounds, where most old school pictues were taken. Just look on this same Washington County message board...good luck

have you tried getting a marriage record for him, which would show her maiden name, or if a widow, may show that.
just an idea, since no census would have them, as they m. after the 1840 census, and she died (maybe after the census
was taken in 1850) Aren't they usually taken in spring thru summer? They may appear on that 1850 census. Another thing, people usually married someone who lived in the general area they lived in...you might look at the 1840 census and the see who were living, (several pages before and after his residense) by Samuel. Hope you have found her name by now.

Hope this isn't inappropiate, but, putting in your computer, will make it a lot easier to send to everyone, at one time, your list, as you update. I for one would enjoy receiving, a copy, by e-mail, saving you postage. And, I think those of us who do get a copy could show our appreciation of your time and effort, and offer some sort of compensation, for the copy! Thanks for all you do! And, hope you weren't offended with my advice! One more thing...Add your mailing address to the copy, you send, and, maybe, they will return a contribution to you.
I am interested in his family, especially James M. Rankin b. 27 June 1794, Mason Co.,KY. I was told he married a Choctaw Indian in 1810. Do you have access to Indian marriage records? Anything you have will be wonderful.
Thank you so much.
Jenny Rankin Marshall

He is buried in Magnolia Cemetery in Mobile.I have been told that Col. Ketchum owned a plantation in Wash Co and that he was also Sheriff. So far, I have found no records to support that. I now live in Texas, so my research is long range.

Zachariah Landrum's 1803 claim was on Laura's Creek west of the Tombigbee River below the old Choctaw line in Washington County, Mississippi Territory, not Alabama. Alabama Territory was cut from the Mississippi Territory in 1817 and Alabama became a state in 1819.

In 1803, Washington county Mississippi Territory was quite large and encompassed most of present day southern Mississippi and southern Alabama. I am not sure where Laura's Creek was located. The Old Choctaw Line was a north/south boundary between the Choctaw lands on the north and the Creek lands on the south. This line follows along the border between modern day Clarke and Marengo Counties, Alabama.
So all we know is that Landrum's land was west of the Tombigbee River and south of the Choctaw line which would be somewhere in present day southern Choctaw or Washington County, Alabama.

Zachariah Landrum registered land in 1811 in "Washington County, Mississippi Territory" and when Alabama Territory was formed in 1817, this area became both Washington and Clarke Counties of Alabama. By 1819 he lived east of the Tombigbee River in present day Marengo County, Alabama.

I hope this helps.
Wendy

In a 1803-1804 pre-emption grant to Zachariah Landrum, he was awarded a tract of land "west of the Tombigbee River" "on Julia's Creek" and "below the old Choctaw line." Zachariah Landrum was counted in the 1803 tax roll, the 1808 census and 1810 census - all being described in Washington County.

I have searched a detailed, but modern, topographical map of Washington County (and surrounding areas), and cannot find a Julia's Creek. I am presuming that at some time after 1803 it was renamed. Does anyone have any clues as to where it might have been, and if renamed, what the current name is? Also I have seen a reference to the "old Choctaw line" in 1799 petition, so the line existed before 1799. Does anyone know where it was? Was it the current northern county line of Washington County?

Thank you for any help.

Francis M. Pringle + Corinna V. Yonge PRINGLE

Where are they buried?
I have a handle on Corinna through 1920 when she is living with her daughter in Biloxi, Harrison, MS as a 74 year old widow. I cannot find Frank after the 1900 census - unless he is the same man as "F.M. Pringle" (67) b. FL in 2-Pct, Desota, FL on the 1910 Census??? I thought that they may both be buried in Washington County, AL because of their ties there, but I have not found graves. My interest is in the fact that Corinna is d/o George Christian Craig Yonge b. 29 Jan 1822 Clarke Co., GA George d. 16 Oct 1868 in Washington Co., AL. I am trying to bulid a family group sheet of his children and their spouses.

Thank you,
Sally
