We were told he was of Spain. May have been born 1839? Presumed to have be incacerated in Yuma Territorial Prison or a brother was B.Peralta of Batricio, Sonora. I am also needing more info on the Peralta families--Yours sincerely
Irene

I would like to find the names of the Cemeteries in a town called Amada or Amado, AZ. My great grandfather, Kenneth Matthess, lived there in the 1950's and worked for the Farmers Investment Co., his hand was caught in a grain crusher and gangrene set in, he is to have died in Aug of 1957 and was buried in Amado. I would like to confirm his deathdate and place, an obituary, anything. Kenneth was from Iowa and his last name is often mispelled different ways but should be Matthess, Matthes or some variation.

Hi Judy - I was wondering if you got any answers to your post. I am in contact with several people (including Owen Mercer and his daughter, Ginny, my second cousin) who are gathering information on the Mercer clan. There is so much more available now that 20 years ago when I researched the book on the Newton Family History. I recently found a copy of T. LIllie Mercer's passport application.

I posted a response to someone who responded to your post, but included incorrect information in the first line. T. Lillie Mercer, of course, was born in 1842 in MA, not in 1872 in England. The Thomas LIllie Mercer born in 1872 was the son of Andrew Valentine Mercer and Isabella Newton Mercer (he died in 1950).

I do have a lot of information if anyone is still interested in more about this branch of the family.

I also have a question for you about something in your family if you'd get in touch. Thanks.

Kathryn (Mason)

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Santa Cruz Couinty, Arizona as his home of record.

Soldier: LUIS SMITH
Born: 1923
Date of loss: November 28, 1950. MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 22 families in Arizona that have not been located. There is one family from Santa Cruz County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Rebecca,

Thanks for your postings. However; I don't think you quite understand how this whole process works. I am not ANNOUNCING that I have family in Nogales, Tucson, or wherever that may be. The goal of this forum is to EXCHANGE information among people who HAVE information about a long lost ancestor that time has just passed by. While I was at first excited about your emails, now I am getting irritated and annoyed that you HAVE NO CONNECTION to the people I inquire about. I do not know any Fimbreses to be in my family line as of yet. And your information to me so far is more like a jigsaw puzzle and riddle rather than some hard core information I can use.
All I am worried about are the members I ASKED FOR.
Good Luck in your research on YOUR FAMILY, but unless you have information on mine, please refrain from writing my email address to do so.
You have still not given me the correct correlation to your being the long lost relative of Hilario Padilla for example.
Thank You,
J.
Just ran in to this today! We haven't any info about Andrew Mercer, just that he took off. My GGrandmother was Ella (Mercer) Asher, she was married to T.Lillie's son, Thomas. I have been to Tubac and was so impressed with the state park there with the old school house he started. There is a picture of Washington on one wall, Lincoln on another, and his on the other. The first school, he ran in the back of his store till he talked the town into building the schoolhouse. Do you know about the history of Cave Creek with my GGrandmother's family. I remember Virgil just a little.

A kind soul recently looked up an obit in Santa Cruz and sent it to me. It is the obit of my 2ndgreatgrand uncle, Henry Royal HARRINGTON. Here is a cut'n'paste of the obit:....
Thursday 25 April 1929 Santa Cruz Evening News, p. 6
--
Henry Harrington, [82 yrs, 3 mos, and 17 days], a
native of Canada, died last evening at the Mission
Hospital. Mr. Harrington served this country during
the Civil War. In his early life he was on a whaling
vessel, and gained a vast amount of knowledge during
his travels. He came to Santa Cruz 12 years ago and
has been residing at 19 Bellevue avenue.
He is survived by his widow, Sarah Harrington, and
two sons, Roy and Ira, who reside in Oregon. Mrs.
Josephine Nichols of this city is a niece.
Funeral services will be held from the Chase
mortuary, Saturday at 2 o'clock. [Friend and
acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend.]
Interment in I.O.O.F. cemetery.**end of cut'n'paste.
I was wondering if anybody seeing this board had any further information on Henry or Sarah or Roy or Ira Harrington or the niece Josephine Nichols. I am trying to piece together Henry's life and any little tidbit would be helpful. You may contact me at: im2funny4U@Juno.com Thank you in advance. Renne Harrington
....

Thanks very much. I was also able to pull down the death certificate and it cleared up a couple of questions. There is a website hosted by the State of Texas that has many of the Texas Ranger records available to be viewed on line. They should have the whole project completed in a few years. I was able to pull down his complete file there (listed under T.G. Chalmers). Still would like to learn what he did and where he was specificallt between 1890 and 1918.

Hello - I recently found some paperwork in an antique store regarding payment from Montana Mines Company to P.M. Clarke, Dr. who owned a general merchandise store. The paperwork includes a list of purchases for the Montana Mines Co. on June 30, 1917 and payment on July 17, 1917. The store appeared to be in Ruby, Arizona and the mine may have been in Calabasas (?). There is also a cancelled check and receipt to P.M. Clarke from the mine with a difficult to read signature, but may be RA Hardy. I'd be happy to copy and send this to anyone researching this old ghost town, mining company, or related families.
Hi Elizabeth - We may be distantly related by marriage . . . My GGrandfather is T. Lillie Mercer (born in England in 1872). He had a brother, Andrew Valentine Mercer, who had four children with Isabella Newton Mercer: a son named James Arthur N. Mercer ("Jimmie" - born in England in 1871); a son named Thomas (born in England in 1872), and a daughter, Kate (born in England in 1881). Andrew and Isabella and their children emigrated to the U.S. in 1883, and had a fourth child, Isadora ("Doris") who died at 18 mo. of age in Tubac. Andrew and Isabella were divorced in 1883, after which she married T. Lillie.

T. Lillie Mercer's children with Isabella Newton Mercer, all born in Arizona, were: Lilian Isabelle (1885), Pauline Emma (my grandmother)(1887), Irene Arizona (1888), and Barclay Newton (1890).

The only Asher I found in the family line was James Franklin Asher (born in 1872), who married Luella Linville Mercer, a woman who had married and divorced Andrew and Isabella's son, Tom. What relation, if any, is James Franklin Asher?

(There is extensive history available about the Mercers in Arizona, including Cave Creek.)

If this information is not correct, or you have more information on the Mercers, please let me know. Thanks.

Kathryn (Mason) Hermansen

As far as them being killed by the Texas Rangers, I have never heard that one. As we speak I am building a Family website.
