I found W.J. on the 1920 Census in Searcy County, listed as Jesse. His wife is in the Arkansas Death index having died on January 7, 1916. The James that is listed in our Cemetery index died in a explosiion working on the railraod on the line from Boone County to Carroll County. Have you gotten a copy of his death certificate in Oklahoma, or his obituary. You can some times contact the funeral home and get a copy of hid funeral record.

I have seen references to his passing abt. 1866 in Ark., a John Wagley with a family, but none I recognize is on Crooked Creek census 1860, but also on 1860 Red River County census has his wife and children without him.
Surely a charter member of the Baptist church would not be a bigamist?!
Is there a will, a marriage, someway to clear this up for me and others???

Carrollton is south of Alpena, which straddles the county lines of Carroll and Boone counties. The Yell Masonic Lodge, located off of hwys 412/68 in Carrollton, is listed on the National Register of Historic places in Arkansas, ( www.arkansaspreservation.org).

There are several ways to travel to Carrollton, one option would be from Harrison, Arkansas. Harrison is located in Boone County, which was carved from Carroll County.

The town of Harrison has a neat heritage history museum, ( www.bchrs.org ). On their website, enter "Carrollton" in the the Search box for more info. about the community.

The town of Berryville also has a neat heritage history museum, ( www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~arcchs ).

The Carrollton Cemetery, with directions, is also listed online at ( www.arkansasgravestones.org ).

It states on the Census record that W.W. is a widower. I have no name for his wife or for him (just initials W.W.). Census also states that he was born in Arkansas, and so was his father. His mother was born in Missouri. His sons, Billie and Teddy were born in Oklahoma. Any information whatsoever would be greatly appreciated, as I have been stuck on this name for over a year! He applied for a second land bounty in 1855. He applied for 120 acres but I don't know if he ever received it. His bounty was for service in the Cherokee Removal, 1838. He lived in Jackson County, AL from about 1820 until about 1852. Thanks for any help!

Robert Schneider

His father was William Hinton Jackson, born 1829 in NC. married in Carroll Co, Tn. I am not sure of his death date. He was a Methodist Minister. Wm. H. married Mary Evaline Letsinger, b. Jan. 20, 1831. I know Wm. H.'s dad was also Wm. Jackson, b. 1802 or 1803 in NC. and his wife, Elizabeth (?). Does any of this sound familiar?

CArolyn

I wanted to ascertain where exactly one turns off Hwy. 68/412 to get to the old town? Thanks, but none of the links you offered gave exact directions either. They all say "south of Alpena" or "off Hwy 68", etc. Is there a marked road that you take? How do you get to the Masonic Lodge? Thanks.

Looking for Rue Wayne White

I notice that RW White has submitted some articles about my family in "Carroll County Families: These Were the First." Also, my mother, Leona Cox Wilson, has a document from Wayne about the Rider family. Mother does not know where Wayne lives, but I would like to locate him to share information about our family history.

Re: E. A. OR EASAIM JACKSON

Carolyn, thanks for your prompt reply. Great-grandfather JASPER Newton Jackson was born 23 July 1859 in either Arkansas or Texas. Census records indicate that E.A./Easaim Jackson was Jasper Newton's father and that he was born in Tennessee. None of the names you mention ring a bell but they will be kept for future reference. Thanks again for your response. We might be cousins! :-)
- Rusty
E. A. OR EASAIM JACKSON

Trying to confirm E.A./Easaim Jackson, born abt. 1814, listed in the 1870 and 1880 Census in Prairie, Carroll County, Arkansas, P.O. Berryville, is the father of Jasper Newton "Newt" Jackson, born 23 July 1859. If either name appears in your family history, we would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks.
