Coy Cox Drowned
We learn as we go to press that Cox (sic) Cox, 19 year-old son of Bud Cox who lives four miles south of the city in Farmer Holler, was drowned in Witty's mill pond about five o'clock yesterday afternoon. Coy and tow other pupils from the Farmer school, after school was out yesterday evening,
we[n]t down to the dam for a swim. They had only been in the water a little while when Coy went down, supposedly from cramp, and never came up again. The alarm was hurriedly brought to the city and in a few minutes every
vehicle obtainable was en rote to the scene of the accident carrying men to search for the body. It was about nine last night when the body was recovered and sent to his heart-broken parents. It was found just above the dam within a few feet of where he was last seen alive.
