In Franklin county. I have bible records for the McGehee family of whom one is Mary. Bible records for two Snodgrass families one family includes Robert, the other includes Caroline. Bible records for the Ivey family of whom the parents are James and Lydia and one son is William Riley. All of these families in Mulberry Township, Franklin county, Arkansas in 1850 and forward. Some proven to be in the same area back to 1829. Any assistance in locating probates and obituaries would be greatly appreciated.

Hello again: Here is my belief concerning these families. Mary Snodgrass, b. 1828 was Mary McGehee, dau. of Old William McGehee, b. 1800 Tn. d. 1848 in Franklin Co. AR. And Lydia Ivy was a sister of his, as was Mary Snodgrass Clark wf of Samuel, wid of Joseph Snodgrass. Somewhere I have a copy of the divorce papers where Samuel Clark,in 1852,"divorced Mary Snodgrass because she tried to poison him". It was among loose papers we found in the old vault in Franklin County Courthouse. Also, the Josephine and John Snodgrass listed on the 1860 census with Jas W. Snodgrass, we do not know who this John belonged to, but this was Josephine McGehee. Robert Bean Snodgrass, Lydia Ivy and Emeline McGehee are buried in the same plat in the Pioneer Cemetery in Lane County, Oregon. This info was sent to me by James Goggins. I understand that you have copies of the Bible. I sure would like to have a copy, also. I will pay any expense you might incurr. If not, maybe a page by page transcription. Sometime a different viewpoint can shed new light on a transcription. I have 25 years experience transcribing old documents.I would love to see the Bible!! Let me hear from you asap. Snodgrass Ivy McGehee

Now I'm very excited. If you can truly furnish the divorce papers of Mary Snodgrass and Samuel Clark, it's I who will pay the expense of your copying these and sending them to me. It will clear up a mystery that we have pondered for several years. I would be very interested in seeing if you have anything on when they were married and if you can truly prove she was the widow of Joseph. We do not yet know the name of Isaac's wife although James Goggins (now deceased) found a grave for a Stella, not otherwise attested in any Snodgrass records I have for Arkansas, who looks like about the right age. (Isaac was Robert Bean's father.) Do you know why Emeline McGehee was buried with Robert and Lydia Ivey? Do you show, as I thought that Lydia is the widow of James Ivey? I'm not really sure why she would have gone with Robert to Oregon. Robert's new wife Susan was Lydia's daughter-in-law by Susan's previous marriage to Joseph Ivey and Robert was also her son's brother-in-law due to William Riley Ivey's marriage to Mary Francis Snodgrass, Robert's sister. That all seems a little tenuous for someone to go live with someone in another state.... Maybe there was a closer relationship than this? I don't know Lydia's maiden name, perhaps it was Snodgrass? Am searching for my g-g-g-grandparents. The only information I have is that John Ivey came over to the USA; to New Smyrna,FL as an indentured servant of Dr. Andrew Turnbell and worked on his indigo plantation. They arrived around July 1768. After the rebellion, they went to Lake City, Columbia County. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Judy, the James Ivey bible records and my research shows James to have been born 15 Feb 1814 in Tennessee. There were several Ivy and Iveys families in Franklin Co in the 1840-1880 time period and I believe they may all be related.

It is possible the George Ivy you have is the father of my James, and also possible that he is his uncle. I trace all the Ivy, Ivey lines in Franklin county. You may run across the mis-information that Mary (Covert) remarried to James Ivy after George. Actually the Mary Ivy who married James Ivy was Mary the dau of James and Lydia Ivy. She was much younger than old Mary (Covert) Ivy. This Mary Ivy the younger was also the Mrs Mary Ivy who married to Thomas B Ford. This family later moved to Eugene, Oregon as did Lydia Ivy after James had died.

Hugh Ivey that is shown in Texas in 1860 is the brother to my Levina Ivey. Hugh married Arrilla STRONG according to the Cooke county Texas marriage license.both Hugh and Levina are children of George Ivey and Elizabeth "Betty" Gilbreath.
I have a lot of information on the Gilbreath's and Iveys if you want it.
