Warren G. Epps
(January 1, 1921 ~ August 6, 2006)

Warren G. "Doc" Epps passed away in his home in Merced Sunday, August 6, 2006. "Doc" was born in Arkansas on New Year's Day 1921 to John Newton Epps and Lizzie May Wallis Epps. He was the eighth child in a family of ten, moving from Arkansas to the Merced, California area in 1935. He was married to Donnis Louise Tiscorna of Merced, California for over 60 years.

A veteran of World War II, "Doc" saw action on Saipan, Okinawa, and Korea. He received a "purple Heart" on June 20, 1945 after being wounded on Okinawa and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on January 23, 1946.

A tireless worker, "Doc" was a plumber most of his life for Johnnie's Plumbing and Valley Plumbing of Merced, but also was employed by Merced Dairy and Ice and the Coca Cola Company.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, "Doc" is survived by his beloved wife, "Donnie"; his two sons, Flynn Allen ("Winkie") Epps of Merced, California and Jon Albert Epps of Reno, Nevada; his grandchildren: Jan Marie Epps Wong of Fountain Valley, California; Amy Louise Epps Martin of Cypress, Texas; and Douglas George Epps of Corte Madera, California. He is survived by six great grandchildren: Nathan Alexander Wong (11 years); Jacob Jon Martin (3 years); Connor Warren Martin (3 months); Cooper Kenneth Martin (3 months); Jackson Mathew Epps (3 years) and Madeline Olivia Epps (1 year). He is also survived by two sisters, Lera Baucum of Turlock, California and Vernell Reichwein of Sun City West, Arizona. "Doc" was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Edith Epps, Coain Epps, Archie Epps, Lillian Duren, Berneice Bledsoe, Wayne Epps, and Veatrice Locke.

He is remembered by his family and friends as a man of inexhaustible body and spirit with a great sense of humor and constant generosity. He not only enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening, but was responsible for handing on his love and skill for all of these to at least three generations of family and friends.

Thanks to family and friends who helped him through his final illness; and special thanks to the home caregivers Maria Inacio, Mary Gonzales, Mary Lopez and Candice Koehn.

Visitation is scheduled from 5-7:00 P.M. today at Ivers & Alcorn Funeral Home Merced.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at Ivers & Alcorn Funeral Home Merced. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who would like to honor Warren "Doc" Epps make a donation to their favorite charity in his name.
