John MILAM b. 1795 in Laurens County, 96 District, SC; d. abt 1855 in Giles County, TN; he is believed to be the son of Thomas MILAM & Elizabeth TALBERT who were married in Halifax County, VA on 12 Jun 1786. John came to Laurens County, SC, via York County, SC, with his family when his grandfather, John MILAM, died circa Aug 1789 in York County, SC.

There is evidence in 1810 Census, Laurens County, SC; Deed Book J, pg. 224, Laurens County, SC; Laurens District Roll #1923, SC Dept of Archives & History, that indicates that the Thomas MILAM family was still in Laurens County, VA as late as 29 Oct 1817. Thomas MILAM did not appear on the 1820 Census of Laurens County, VA as Thomas's family had started moving west circa 1818. Thomas MILAM is recorded as having died in Bartow County, GA in 1823.

Abt 1818 in SC, John m. Mary UNKNOWN b. circa 1798 NC; d. abt 1858 Giles County, TN. John and his wife, Mary, appear in the 1830 Census Records for Franklin County, TN; 1840 Census Records for Coffee County, TN; and 1850 Census Records for Giles County, TN. John apparently died sometimes after the 1850 Giles County Census. It is believed that the sons of Thomas, John, and Coleman MILAM had moved onto Franklin County, TN and was later joined by Thomas's widow, Elizabeth (Talbert) MILAM circa 1923.

This would track, as John's first child, Jefferson MILAM, b. 1819/1820 Franklin County, TN; d. 25 Jun 1862 in hospital at Tupelo, Lee County, MS, as a member of Company C., 32nd MS Infantry (CSA). Jefferson m. UNKNOWN abt 1853. Jefferson is vertified by evidence as having been born in Franklin County, TN, circa 1820, as John's only male child in the 1830 Census of Franklin County, TN. Jefferson was recorded as being 42 years old and as being born in Franklin County, TN, in the 1862 Muster Roll Record of Company C, 32 Mississippi Infantry (Confederate) retrieved from the National Archives in Washington, D.C.

John & Mary's daughter, Milinday "Malinda" MILAM b. 3 Oct 1832 Coffee County, TN; d. 31 May 1864 Searcy County, AR. On 25 Feb 1856 "Malinda" m. William James THACKER b. 9 May 1832 Giles County, TN; d. 25 Aug 1896 Baxter County, AR. Three children: Emline (b. 1856); James Thomas (1859-1931); and John Washington (b. 11 May 1864). John was given to MILAM family after his mother's death.

on 9 Sep 1866 in Searcy County, AR, William m. Eliza Jane FARIS b. 11 Sep 1827 York County, SC; d. 24 Nov 1897 Baxter County, AR; dau of Robert Miller FARIS.
