I had forgotten this info until I read your post, this is where the confusion might be from. I have the claim his father (William Springston) made to the Southern Claims Commission, and remembered that he talked about his sons loyalties. He stated that in 1862 Linton and Calvin were forced to join the "Rebels" or be shot. Linton deserted and then enlisted with the Union in March 1863. Calvin also deserted and made his way home and they hid him for 5 months, later he also joined the Union and was killed in the war. His son Williamson was in the !st Arkansas Cavalry (Union) and other son Warren worked in the Government shop at Fayetteville. Linton's wife Sophronia re-married a "Rebel" after Linton died. The one son Linton and Sophronia had (John Henry) was described as "sickly" in her widow's pension. Hope this helps!
