I am looking for information on Catholic Convents that existed in or around Oakland, California around the 1920's. This convent would have allowed children to live there while their parents were off working elsewhere. I am in search information on my husbands g-mother and her family. She was born in California, 10/1916, her name was Lorraine Slocum. She passed away in San Francisco in the 1980's. Lorraine's last name at the time of her passing was Bianchi. She had been married to a George Binachi (2nd marriage) and they lived in Daly City California. Her mother was of hispanic heritage and we believe that Lorraine's mother's last name was Garcia. Lorraine and her sisters went to live in a convent in this area due to their mothers illness. Lorraine worked as a nurses aid in a hospital in Oakland where she soon met and married (at the age of 15-16) a George Murphy (1st husband) believed to work in the Pharmacy in the same hospital. We have been told that Lorraine's mother's family were the owners of many, many buildings in and around Oakland. I know this is a lot of information but we have hit a lot of walls and if anyone can help, we would welcome your help.
