If Mt.Calavy isn't a Catholic Cemetery then why does St.Leanders has the records. Because its a Catholic Cemetery and its San Leandro.

I google Mt. Calvary cemetery in San Leandro this is what I found.

From the San Leandro times newpaper.

"A little-know secret is hidden in San Leandro hills. An historic burial gound called Mt. Calvary cemetery is located in hillcrest knolls."

A 7 acre site for Mt.Calvary cemeterywas bought by St. Leanders church in 1872 from Jose Joaquin Estudillo the founder of San Leandro. The gate is padlocked and a sign reads "....Keep out.

This cemetery was used by St. Leanders church until the late 1920. Some relatives of the buried still live in San Leandro. There are four thousand paupers were buried at this site. Back in the 1920's Mt. Calvary got a new name the paupers Cemetery.

A great big thank for Rootsweb Fine a grave. They have a site for Mt. Calvary in San Leandro to put the name of your relatives so they won't be forgotten.

Like I said before people who do cemetery website should know the history. People that are laid to rest all don't have to be famous.
