I am looking for information about the Monroe Ranch in the alpine area during the 1850's. I came across this post and viewed the census records listing a Henry H., William, and Walter Monroe (all attending school) but not their parents who might have been associated with the Ranch. My ancestor, Thomas Jonas South 1814-1850 died on the Monroe Ranch in Nov. of 1850 - he was Manager of the teams & cattle and was said to be buried at the foot of the Shasta Mts., - maybe in the Washoe Cemetery which is located off the Monroe Ranch Rd. in Markleeville? Any help with who to contact for old records, etc. or a list from the cemetery would be much appreciated.
