Richard Knox's mother, Nera Vivian, is my great aunt, my grandmother's sister. Our family lost track of him quite a few years back. I had been searching for a location or death date for him. He was adopted by Vivian and Ted. He never married or had children, as far as my family knew. I have further data I can share and would also be interested in learning more about his grandparents, etc. Thank you for any help.

This family has been very difficult to trace, Mary Ann lists 6 children living on the 1900 census of which I can only trace 2. She was divorced from John Montgomery and currently am waiting on Civil War papers that perhaps will give some additional details. Catherine (Katie) Cusick was my 3rd great grandmother. She was married to George William Dausey, Dausy, Dansy; in Tehama County, California. She was born in Wisconsin or Minnesota. Her marriage record shows one state, and the 1880 Census shows a different state. I have not confirmed who her parents are. If anyone has information about Catherine Cusick's family, that would be great.

Obituary Notice from the Oroville Mercury on 20 July 1888.
"Died: Dansy-At Lovelock, Cal., July 17, 1888, Catherine A., beloved wife of Geo. W. Dansy, aged 31 years."
I think she may have died during childbirth. There are a few Dausey babies in the Coutolenc-Lovelock Cemetery. George's second wife, Anna Sorenson is also buried there. She died young as well. The babies could belong to either one or both of them. Information from the Stirling City Historical Society-George Dausy was one of the trustees of the cemetery.

We are Loyds who came into CA in 1852 from Little Rock, AK. We were in the second party after the Donners to go through Donner Pass. The first town the Loyds lived in was Rough and Ready. They tried to get land in Windsor, but due to the Spanish Land Grant issues, it was impossible. I am told that we went to the Marysville area, which was confirmed just last week with a visit to a distant relative who had an autograph book, wherein Moore's Station (now named Riverton), Butte County was referenced until about 1867.

After Windsor, the family took another 10 years (1862) to finally settle in Porterville/Plano/Vandalia, CA. The autograph book showed that Minnie Loyd and Elizabeth Loyd moved in 1867, or so.

My Loyd ancestor was Jane Loyd. Her mother, Sarah Price Loyd married a man named Henry Coker, who was from GA, following the death of her husband in Little Rock. Henry and his children accompanied Sarah and her numerous (10?) children to CA. Jane married a man named Sorrells in Rough and Ready.

The spelling of Loyd with one "L" is what makes me believe there is a connection here. It is usually spelled with 2 "Ll"s.

There is a Rose Ella Bennett in Butte County history that was born to Alice Mae Hensley and Owen W. Bennett and moved to Butte County as an infant in the early 1880's. At that time, Rose became the step-daughter to Samuel W. Lewis in the 1880's and took his last name as was common n those days.

No word here on what happened to Rose's father, Owen, who was born in England.

I'm looking to find a death date/place of burial for Sarah Emeline Tichenor Wixom, wife of John Fletcher Wixom who died 1 JUL 1895 in Oroville. Emeline is shown on the 1900 census living with son Ira Del Wixom.
I've found one family tree online that gives her death as 24 FEB 1907 in Oroville, but have not been able to find proof of that date.
I would love to have an obit/death record for her. Would also like to be in contact with decendants of Ira Wixom.

I have had a difficult time finding my Gr, grandmother's birth record (Josephine Dausey) and the name of her mother. It seems strange that her mothers name does not appear on any census nor does her name appear on the death records of her children. George Venable was my ggrandfather his daugther Margaret(Maggie)Venable was my grandmother.

Hugh Venables side of the family moved to southern califoria in the 1880s Norwalk area.

George and Hugh came to Ca.mid 1850s from Missouri.

I knew about the two "ladies" having found them in the census. I guess every family has their little secrets. Not that it appears they tried to hide it.

Yes if wouldn't mind I would like copies of the head stones. I tried to find the cemetary last time I was in Oroville and ended up getting myself totally lost.

There are several family members buried in a cemetary in Cerritos, one being my grandfather's mother. I was a little surprised that there was only one head stone that said Venable and nothing else. Guess the family isn't into monuments. There are 4 other Venable graves that have markers but this one little section has my ggrandmother, a cousin that died at an early age, and one son-in-law. There is also some question about whether my ggrandfather is buried next to ggrandma. The cemetary says no, but there is no record of anyone else in the plot next to her and her obituary said that she was going to be buried next to her husband.

I have found that there are several age variances in the ages in the census records. Almost like they rounded up or down however they wanted. And you have to watch out for the names, because they have some very odd things. My grandmother every one knew as "Christy". I found a birth record for a female born to the ggrandparents born on the same day as my grandmother but her name was Josephian. But in the census it says Christy. It is part of the fun in doing the research.

I visited Oroville a few times and only spent part of an afternoon in the Library. There is a History of Butte County, very old which has a short history of William Bullock Venable on pages 923-4.I also found listings for the 4 graves in the Chico Cemetary. Three in secion 9, one in section3-12b-6. I also found Geo. and possibly sons listed in the Butte County California Great Register. Vol.15(maybe 13) No.1 pg 23. , Voter Register for 1878-87 Vol. 33:1 pg 79. Also the 1881 Butte County Directory- Chico is listed a Geo A and Hugh C.,but I believe these are sons because the Hugh C I am looking for was in LA. In the 1860 census both brothers and thier families are listed in Butte County. By 1870 Hugh was in San Juan township in Monterey County, CA then in 1880 in Los Nietos, Los Angeles County.

Yes, some of it is new.

I didn't realize that these records are in the Oroville Library. I will take the time time to look them up. I have several references in my own library as well. I am a bit puzzled at finding no records for Geroge Venable in 1878-1979. Somewhere he must have sold the land and moved into town.

In 1880 are two of Georges daughters, listed in the census as prostitutes.

I haven't gone out to photo the original ranch along Mud Creek yet, but it could be all orchards now.

Mollie, age 28 is buried as is an unnamed Venable infant in the County plot section 3 (Potters Field, no headstone). I have photos of the section 9 headstones. If you would like them, I can email jpg files.

William Venable's wife, Laura Ada Roberts birthdate does not jive with their marriage date and the 1910 census. I have done some research on the Roberts family. The Roberts family homesteaded near my place in the 1870s.

She was born in 1867. See the 1910 census- she was 43 and he was 59 and married for 26 years. She married George at age 17. A 10 to 20 year age difference ‘tween spouses in those days was normal. A girl waited until she found a man who was already established. The math between their tombstone and the census record is a bit fuzzy. I would never have made the connection, had Laura's full name (Laura ADa Roberts Venable) not been in the cemetery records.

I am not a member of the Dausey family. I research history in this area which was known as Stoneman up until about 1920 when the school district was bleneded into the Clear Creek school district.

I need to go back to my Dausey file, but briefly, Dauseys married into the Mary Merithew family, by Marceline Merithew, but her real name was Steinberger and her father was Dr. Crapo of Chico, CA. I believe that John William and Marcelyn Dausey inherited Mary and William Merithew's place below Paradise, Calif.

Birth recordings before 1905 were a matter of whether the family thought to travel the 12 miles to Oroville and have it recorded. Babies were born at home and some did not make it during the first year.

Deaths were not recorded faithfuly in the large county ledger books until 1889. Records before 1889 were spotty at best.

Vital statistics were not a hard-and-fast requirement for the counties until about 1905.

Have you consulted newspaper birth and death records?
