I find some good information on George in Humboldt County,California - City directory 1916, he is a rug maker - address 508 G - 1922 voter roll George and Lydia 1403 4th Street Eureka occ Weaver - 1930 Census George 60yrs lives at 631 Myrtle Ave with Lydia E. 58 years, he comes from Ilinois and she came from Ohio - no stated occupation - City Directory 1952 he lives at 1834 C St. Eureka Some family has them included in their family tree on Ancestry

Yes she does!! I have some that we started way back when, but it's in storage i.e. in a box in the garage that I haven't found yet. I'm sure you'll be a huge help. We started searching in here because another local Meng contacted us to ask if we were related. Hi,I lived down river from Weitchpec on what was
the Lewis Ranch from 1974-1979. Gaylord Lewis was the
only heir to live on the ranch after it was broken up
and sold 1973 or so. He kept the piece in the middle
of the ranch.The Gaylord I knew was probably born around
1940 and was definitly Yurok. I found him to be a decent and honest person..Later in the late 80's I was told he was killed in a family feud..

Hello Cindybelle3, My query is not related to the above post but there was no other way to contact you.

I noticed that you made a correction on Luce Lapointe in the 1851 Census of Canada. I was wondering if you were related to that family? I'm trying to figure out if that is Luce Antoinette Lapointe on my Weed Family Tree. She was born in Canada in March 1842, died 25 May 1905 and married Wolfred Paquet. They had 10 children. Wolfred had a sister Eulalie, who was my Great Great Grandma.

In the census, it looks like Luce's father was Regis Lapointe, born 1806 and it looks like the census has Luce's siblings, Emelie, Nathalie, Alphonse and Edmond. I don't have Luce's parent's on my tree yet so if I can prove she is "my" Luce, then I can add Regis at least, as her father!

On the San Francisco Area Funeral Home Records it has instructions for sending the cremation ashes to Arcata, CA. It says to send ashes to the Chapel of Redwood, Arcata for burial. I haven't worked on this line for awhile, I had to go back and refresh my memory. The Benbow's descend from Caroline Weinkauf Linser. Caroline was a sister to Daniel Weinkauf, who is my husband's great-grandfather. Most of the Weinkauf's stayed in Minnesota, so it was exciting to make the California connection. According to Daniel's obit, I am still missing one of his brothers.

In my research, I learned about Benbow Inn. I know it has been sold out of the family, but I tell my husband someday we have to spend a night there!

Go up to the Humboldt Room at the Public Library in Eureka and ask the person at the desk to show you where to look for the Mengs. There are birth, marriage, death, obituary and naturalization books. Also have them show you how to use the Susie Baker Fountain Collection card catalog.

Thank you ever so much. I have contacted the cemetary. They checked their records, and they even walked the section for me (you're right; they were exceedingly helpful). There are one or more unmarked graves at the edge of one section that aren't on their list; the individual I contacted presumed the grave may be one of my relatives.

Sarah H. Ward Temple seems to be a likely candidate for the undocumented gravesite. Her son Andrew P. Temple perished in 1902 near Scotia, and is reportedly buried in Ocean Side. She is shown in Hydesville living with her two brothers William John Ward and Edwin D. Ward during the 1900 census, but is not listed as a surviving relative on 1 June 1901 when Edwin dies in Eureka.

If Cindy, (look up lady) didn't find what you were looking for, it probably isn't in the records at the library. Due to medical reasons I had to stop volunteering in the Humboldt Room and no longer do look ups.
I might suggest calling the cemetery 707-445-3188. I understand they are very helpful with genealogy requests. I think most of the names in the cemetery book at the library are just ones with headstones. They may be buried there but don't have a headstone.

Hi, I am wondering if I missed your efforts on this topic. I didn't see an update.

I realize it's been 3 years, but I'm still interested in finding whether Edwin Ward (and Sarah H. Ward Temple) are buried in Ocean View cemetary. "Lookup Lady" discovered that Emeline Ward and Andrew Temple are shown to be there, but I'd like to know if the others are as well.

Sarah and Edwin were both in Hydesville during the 1900 census. Edwin perished from "le grippe" in 1901, and Sarah is not listed as a surviving relative, which would indicate she perished in late 1900 or early 1901.

Marriage Records

Hi,

Is there anyone out there with access to marriage records from the 1930's-1940's, possibly early 1950's-- from Humboldt County? I am trying to find information on an individual named Orville Owen Sargent (b. 1917 in WA). I am told that he had three spouses in that timeframe, all possibly in Humboldt County. I do not have names for two of the spouses, but a third was named Peggy. I have his family tree well researched, so I am mainly looking for a marriage record or something of that nature that I can link up to find out who the spouses could have been and wether or not the couples had children. I have the 1930 Census, so I am not looking for that info, and he is still living at home at that time.
