2-Car Crash on US 99 Kills Three

A 2-car collision on rain-soaked US Highway 99 last night claimed the lives of three including two Bakersfield men and a veteran Tulare Co. peace officer.

Dead are Deputy Sheriff Ross Cochran onetime Chief police of Tulare, and two Bakersfield men, Ernest Feltus, 39 and his brother Abraham, 34.

Investigating officer said Cochrann was en route to investigate a burglary when his car collided north of Tulare with a car driven by Ernest Feltus. They said Feltus apparently was traveling over the center of the highway.

FELTUS, ABRAHAM ROSS - funeral services will be held Nov. 26 at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church auditorium with interment following in Union Cemetery for Abraham Ross Feltus, 34, of 819 No. Kern St., who died in a road accident Nov. 19. Born in Paris, Miss. May 22, 1917, he had been a farm labor contractor in this area for the past 12 years. He leaves his widow, Marjorie; sons Abraham, Jr. and Harlan Feltus; and daughters Anita, Helena and Ellen all of Bakersfield; also the mother Lucy Feltus of Monrovia; brothers and sister Monroe of Bakersfield, Tilmon of Fresno and Joe of
Chicago and Sue Ella Feltus of Monrovia. The Reverend H.A. Green will officiate. Rucker's Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include the widow, Ivee and sons Ernest, Jr., Richard and Charles Feltus all of Bakersfield; daughters Darlene, Marjorie, Susie, Carroll Ann, Sharon, and Jeanette Feltus also of Bakersfield; the mother Mrs. Lucy Feltus of Monrovia and three brothers and a sister, Monroe of Bakersfield, Tillmon of Fresno, and Joe of Chicago and Sue Ella Feltus of Monrovia. The Rev H.A. Green will officiate. Rucker's Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
