ELVIRA A. GUAGLIANO
Elvira Aragona Guagliano, who came to this country from her native Italy, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2000 at her home in Novato at the age of 95.
Her funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday morning at her parish home, St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Novato. Mrs. Guagliano was laid to rest at Valley Memorial Park.
Mrs. Guagliano, who came to Marin County in 1924, lived in Tiburon and Mill Valley before settling in Novato.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother all of her adult life. Her home was her domain and her kitchen its heart. There she nurtured her husband and children, producing many thousands of pots of spaghetti sauce over a lifetime. Hers was "the best spaghetti sauce in the world," said her son, Ray Guagliano of Novato.
Mrs. Guagliano also was a gifted seamstress and dressmaker.
In recent years she greatly loved the weekly visits to her home by the priests at St. Anthony's.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Pat Guagliano, in 1983 and by her daughter, Frances Jensen, in 1991.
Mrs. Guagliano is survived by her son, Ray Guagliano of Novato; her grandchildren, Linda Jensen Rowen of Chico, Franci Griffith of Cotati, Tony Guagliano of Monterey and Ann Jensen of Sacramento; a niece, Lorraine Rappa of Petaluma; and her family in Italy, a brother, two sisters and several nieces and nephews.
The family prefers that any memorial contributions be sent to Hospice of Marin, 150 Nellen Ave., Corte Madera, CA 94925 or St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1000 Cambridge St., Novato, CA 94947.
Keaton's Redwood Chapel of Marin handled the arrangements.
An obituary also appeared in the Marin Independent Journal on Saturday, July 15, 2000, Section B, page 2.
