Joseph C. Brewster,
owned ship repair firm

Joseph C. Brewster, 67, owner of a San Francisco ship repair firm, died unexpectedly at his Mill Valley home yesterday after suffering a heart attack.

Brewster was owner and chairman of the board of West Winds Inc., a San Francisco firm which he cofounded in 1947.

He was a life charter member and past president of the Mill Valley Lions Club, a past captain in the Marin County Sheriff's Posse, a founder of the Southern Marin Horsemen's Association, a member of the board of the Mill Valley Community Church, a member of the Horse Committee of Marin County and of the Marina Square Club in San Francisco.

He served on the Mill Valley Parks and Recreation Commission for six years, including two as chariman.

Brewster was a native of Oklahoma and a graduate of Emporia State Teachers College in Kansas. During World War II he went to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii to install power plant machinery.

He had been a resident of Mill Valley since 1950.

Brewster is survived by wife, Marjorie; a daughter, Barbara Jo Brewster of Mill Valley; a son, Robert M. Brewster of Mill Valley; two brothers, James T. Brewster of Garfield, N.M., and William F. Brewster of Denver, Colo.

Memorial service will be at 11 a.m.Friday at the Mill Valley Community Church. Private burial service will be in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery, San Rafael.

Friends may call from noon tomorrow until 11 a.m. Friday at the Russell and Gooch Funeral Chapel in Mill Valley. The family prefers memorial contributions to the Marin General Hospital Auxiliary, the Childrens Brain Diseases Foundation in care of Franklin Hospital, San Francisco, or to a favorite charity.
