Claude 'Jack' Smith

Claude "Jack" Smith of 1280 Rider Avenue, Salinas, died Sunday at Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco following an illness. He was 73.
A native of Burtha, Mo., he had lived in Salinas 40 years and was a repairman for Kane-Zech Ap-pliance Store for 18 years before his retirement.
He was a 20 year veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a master sergeant before his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Smith of the family home; three daughters, Karen Baker of Salinas, Linda Gulick of New Brighton, Mo., and Fawn Christenot of Billings, Mont.; eight grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Chapel blessing services are scheduled at 1 p.m. Thursday at Healey Mortuary, with the Rev. Manuel Canal, pastor of St. Mary of the Natividad Catholic Church, officiating.
Burial with full military honors is scheduled in Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Friends may call at the mortuary.
