BUT, they may have divorced in Benito County. The divorce record would be where the Petitioner filed, not necessarily where either had married or had lived.

From the Benito County research:
Also look for her name as being "Traverso:"

The 1920 Census of San Juan, San Benito County, CA
Alejandro Pazos, age 46(1873/1874), single, born in CA to both parents born in Spain, laborer/Ranch.
Isabel Traverso(as transcribed), age 30(1889/1890), Cook, Divorced. Born in CA.
Carl, son 5
Maijora? 3/12.

The 1900 Census of Hollister, San Benito, CA
Isabella Vargas, born July 1888 in CA, dau of Baldomero and Maria Vargas.
--Family trees identify Baldomero 1840-5 Dec 1920 in San Benito., Maria Antonia Valencia, 1857-March 17, 1937 in Hollister.

8 June 1922, Alexande(as written), Pazos, born in San Benito County, mother's maiden name: Vargas.

Carl from the 1920 Census apparently was adopted by Alejandro to become Carl F. Pazos. He was born Oct 6, 1914 in Napa County, died Feb 6, 2007, grew up in Hollister. His obit and grave information:;

So, your Alejandro appears to have married Isabelle Traverso, maiden name Vargas. The marriage record might be in either name. Carl was born in Napa County. The 1920 Census of CA, shows a John Traverso, inmate at th Napa State Hospital. He was 37 (1882/1883) born in CA to both parents born in Italy. He matches certain criteria, but there is NO PROOF he was the husband of Isabelle.
--The WWI Draft cards show this person at the hospital, name only, refused to sign.
