Ancestry's Rules and Guidelines

Hello Everyone:

What some of you may or may not know Ancestry has rules and guidelines for posting on the message boards. As the administrator of this message board and several others I follow those rules when administering the boards. These are not my rules but ancestry's. They are here so that the boards are easier to use and to follow, they also help keep up the integrity of the boards.

Some of them that are important to know:

Do not post commercial links or references to commercial sites. This can include sites that are genealogical in nature but because they sell items such as books or maps includes them as commercial. If you are in doubt don't post the link.

All posts must show relevance to the board on which they are posted. For instance the original post must show relevance to Sacramento county, this is done by either mentioning Sacramento or a place in Sacramento in the post - either in the subject line or in the body of the message. Each subsequent message must then show relevance to the original post. A change in topic will cause that post to either be moved or deleted depending upon the circumstance. In the past administrators could change the subject line so it would then it would fit with the new topic and then the post could then be moved but now that we can't we have to ask that the poster either change the subject line or we have to delete the message which is very frustrating.
