Roger D. Sterni, 54, of Stockton died Friday in a hospital. Mr. Sterni was born in Sonora. He lived in Stockton for 50 years. Mr. Sterni was a senior collection systems operator for the city of Stockton. He was a member of Parks and Recreation Softball League and Linden Softball League. Survivors: wife, Sandra Sterni of Stockton; children, Elizabeth "Liz" Davis of Lodi; mother, Martha Sterni of Stockton; siblings, George Sterni, Richard Sterni and Robert Sterni, all of Stockton, and Gloria Juelch of Mountain Ranch; and five grandchildren. Barbara K. Word, 37, of Valley Springs died Thursday at home. Mrs. Word was born in Lodi. She lived in Valley Springs for four years. Mrs. Word was a bus driver for Taylored Tours, Lodi Unified School District, Linden schools and Calaveras Unified School District. She was a member of Lodi Women of the Moose. Survivors: husband, Duane Word of Valley Springs; children, Brandy Word of Valley Springs, Ashley Word and Nicole Hilzendeger, both of Linden, and Levi Hilzendeger of Lodi; and brothers, Scott Riddle and Don Riddle, both of Lodi.
