I looked at the San Mateo Times on Nov. 3 and 4th and didn't find an obituary or funeral notices. Nov. 5th wouldn't load I have access to NewspaperArchives through the Godfrey Library.
I also scanned the front page of the San Mateo Times from 9/4 through 9/10 in 1943 hoping to find at least a missing in action article but nothing. Guessing the timeline could be long for notification of someone missing and it appearing in the newspaper during WWII.
If you don't have access to NewspaperArchives you could join the Godfrey Library as a Premium Gold member for $80 for a year and read the newspaper online......

William Maynard Bartlett (son of Everett Warren Bartlett and Ann Marie Manharth) was born 26 Jan 1924 in Redding Cailfornia, and died 03 Sep 1943 in Honolulu Hawaii.

This relative is buried in Golden Gate Cemetary. We were told he was stationed at Schofield Barrack, in Hawaii.
and his plane was shot down in 1943, and his body was recoved and buried in 1947.. so not sure where to look for an obit.

Can anyone suggest where I can try to look??

Did you see in my tree she had two sons, Nicolai Larsen and Canute Larsen. They are my second cousins. Nicolai is a talented artist, he has a web site. Canute plays classical guitar and moved up to the country a few years ago.
Do they know about you? I babysat the boys when they were young.

Four of Five in Auto Killed on Bayshore
A gay Southern California holiday of five San Franciscans had a tragic climax early yesterday morning on the Bayshore highway one mile north of San Jose.
The car in which they were returning home collided with another at the Brokaw road intersection, struck a directional sign and concrete dividing line and overturned, causing the deaths of four of the five.
The Dead:
Emma Poppin, 18, of 1137 De Haro street
Mrs. Mary Warren, 47, of 2817B Twenty-fourth street.
Walter N. Fadeef, 24, of 2609 Twenty-third street
George Kashuba, 27, clerk, 1592 Treat avenue.
According to highway patrolman, the car in which the four were killed was driven by George Poppin, brother of Emma.
Poppin's car, traveling at high speed, barely clipped a car crossing the intersection driven by John Silva, Santa Clara, and went out of control, police said.
Poppin was thrown clear of his car and miraculously escaped serious injury. Silva, his wife and two children likewise were uninjured.
The Poppins are cousins of George Poppin, Santa Clara football player.
The bodies of Fadeef, Kashuba and Mrs. Warren were taken to San Francisco Memorial Chapels, 435 funeral arrangements will be made today.

Two San Francisco girls, and a male companion were instantly killed when their car crashed into the cement, dividing line on the Bayshore highway and Brokaw road, shortly before one o'clock this morning.
Another victim of the crash, also of San Francisco, was not expected to survive his injuries.
The dead:
Ann Poppin, 18, 1137 De Haro Street, San Francisco (Note: this should be EMMA Poppin)
Mary Warren, 25, 2817 Twenty-fourth street, San Francisco
George Casuba, San Francisco, address unknown
Walter N. Fadeeff, 2609, Twenty-third street, San Francisco is in the San Jose hospital believed fatally injured.

Rolls Over 4 Times
The accident occurred when a car being driven by George Poppin, brother of one of the girl victims, sideswiped a car that had stopped before entering the Brokaw road intersection, according to a highway patrolmen.
Poppin's car crashed into a directional sign, hit the cement dividing line on the highway and apparently rolled over three or four times. Poppin, although suffering from shock, was not injured. He said that he and his party were returning to San Francisco after a visit to Los Angeles and Hollywood.

Others Unhurt
The driver of the other car was John Silva, 1824 Washington street, Santa Clara. He was accompanied by his wife and family, none of whom was injured.
Silva's car sustained only minor damage.
Traffic Patrolmen Keith Carmichael and Ray Watkins, summoned by passing motorists, called Freeman's ambulances, who rushed the four to the hospital, where three were found dead upon arrival.

Two San Francisco women and their two male companions were killed three of them instantly, early today when the car in which they were returning from Los Angeles sideswiped another car and crashed into the concrete dividing strip on the Bayshore highway near San Jose.
The dead were:
Mrs. Mary Warren, 38, 2817B Twenty-fourth street,
Emma Poppin, 18, 1137 De Haro Street
George Kasuba clerk, about 30, 1592 Treat Avenue.
Walter N. Fadeef, 24, 2609 Twenty-third street.
All four were thrown from the car, which turned over four times. The two girls and Kasuba were killed instantly, while Fadeef died four hours later in the San Jose Hospital.
Highway patrolmen said the accident occurred when George Poppin, brother of Anne and driver of the car, swerved to avoid a car driven by John Silva of Santa Clara, which was entering the intersection on Brokaw road. Poppin's car sideswiped the Silva automobile, was thrown out of control and sent it crashing into the massive concrete abutment. Neither Poppin nor Silva was held by police.

Hello, Yes I am related to Vera. Her father William Gough was my maternal grandfather's brother. Harriet and Charles Gough along with their sons William and Samuel and Harriet's daughter from a previous relationship/marriage? along with a son emigrated from Ashton upon Mersey in Cheshire leaving behind my grandfather Harry. This was about 1914/18. William (Bill) married Grace who had been engaged to his best friend who was also killed in action. The last I heard about Vera was last year and she was in a home. I had been trying for years to make contact with the family in Canada, this only happened about 18 months ago. Thank you for the message Ann

Vera Gough was engaged to my uncle, P/O Howard James Gould, when he was shot down over Germany on Oct 18, 1943. They met while he was in training for the RCAF in Calgary. Howie often referred to her as "Ve" in his letters - we have some lovely photos of the two of them in 1942-43. I have often wondered how Vera's life unfolded, and was glad to learn she married. Are you a relative of Vera's?

In 1910 he was living with his parents in Gilroy, Santa Clara Co., CA.

On Sept. 12, 1918 he was living in Hollister, San Benito Co., CA.
Born: october 25, 1899
Occupation: Laborer for Martin Iermini, father, Hollister
Wife: Irene B. Iermini, Hollister

Galen went to Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and there he held the Iowa state record for the 4 minute mile in 1951. He was an Elder in the Melchizedek Priesthood and loyal member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Galen is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Patricia Hassen and his Daughters Pamela Atterberry and Terresa Torres. Sons-in-law Shederick Atteberry and Sergio Torres. His Grandchildren Ciara Torres, Sergio Jovan Torres, Galen J. Hassen, and Nathan Hassen. He is preceded in death by his parents Galen C. Hassen, Helen Hassen and aunt Marjorie Arnold.

Graveside Services will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Arcata. Friday 27, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. Services will be conducted by the L D S Church. Arrengemenst are under the care of Paul’s Chapel, Arcata, California.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ink People in Eureka.

Sorry I don´t have her birthdate but if this is the right one her mother was Ellen M GUSTAFSON b.Apr.30 1894.

According to a will who I ofcource lost I remember there was a Galen Hassen living in McKinleyville CA.
Found a Galen M Hassen in SSDI b.May 20 1932 and passed away
Feb.20 2009 in KcKinleyville.
To find maybe the right mother,I´m sure you agree with me, it to look for Galens obituary.
