I am a descendent of Mary Howsley, sister of Sarah and daughter of Thomas Howsley. (Her son, William married Mary
Algeo) Mary married Reuben Pierce. Their daughter Mary Elizabeth Pierce was my great grandmother. I have some information on the Howsleys in Sutter County and some going back to England but have not done much research on this line. I Would like to exchange what I do have if you are interested.

Surnames: Howsley, Trevathan
I too am a decendent of Sarah Howsley and William Trevathan, and the family history always said that William Howsley, Sarah's Brother, was murdered in Virginia City, Nevada, hence Sarah would no longer live in VC; Her husband was also mining in that area. Anyway I have been working on the "Gold Hill Cemetery Record Book 1863 - 1884" FHC film # 1889228 item 2, and on page 86 I found the following entries: Registry of Deaths in Gold Hill, Story County Nevada for fiscal year ending June 1 st 1869. #17 Wm. B. How(u)sely,Place of birth-England cause of death- pistol shot ? Holly date-Aug 25 age-40 occupation-miner by whom buried- Wm Trevathan where buried-Gold Hill Cemetery. #18 W.F. Holly pob-Illinois Cause-Suicide date-Aug 25 age-30 occ-miner who buried-brother where-Gold Hill Cemetery.
It is my understanding that the records for the Gold Hill Cemetery are not too good and that the cemetery itself is in poor shape I will be checking on that in the near future.Hope this helps.

My husband, John Franklin Algeo, had an uncle, Louis Fenwick Algeo, b. 1902, d. 1956. He spent some time in Carlsbad, CA, circa 1931. He had a spouse who divorced him probably in the 40's and he returned to Oklahoma. He never saw his kids again which, to me, is sad. If his kids or their descendants are looking for him, they will not find a listing on the SSDI. He had a boy and a girl whom my husband met in the early fifties when he went to CA on a vacation with the family. They might be in their mid-60's by now. Sure would like to connect with them. I really believe Uncle Lou never got over all of this--he died at age 54.

Hi Laura,
My name is Susanne James Daniell -- great great granddaughter of Calvin James of whom you write. I am working backwards to Jeremiah James and his parents David and Mary. I would love to get copies of any information you might have -- or scanned photos etc. I would be very happy to share anything I have with you. You probably know that we lost most all the family history in the flood of 1955 (I was 4 years old) in Pleasant Grove. I am now in WA state.

Hope to hear from you. susanne
