I am looking for information on Nicholas W. Dorsey who died 5 July 1878 in Dunnigan, Yolo County, in a thrashing machine accident. Nick was born in 1837 in Urbana, Frederick Co., Maryland. During the Civil War he rode with White's Comanches (Company B, 35th Virginia Cavalry) and between 1865 and 1870 spent time in prison in Albany, NY for his participation in the shooting of a storekeeper and the robbing of a post office; he was sentenced to life, but escaped. Sometime after the 1870 census was taken, he came to California and as he was a farmer before the War, that's the occupation he pursued in California.
