I need advice from someone knowledgeable of how a person in the midwest might obtain California marriage and divorce info during a period running from 1935-1960. The name of the husband was William L. or N. HOFFMAN but I know only the first names of up to three wives.
Two of the wives are found with the husband in Sacramento City Directories in 1935 (Lois) and 1937 (Bernice).
William HOFFMAN is listed as divorced in the 1940 census in Reno, NV.
Wife #3 was Hazel and they are found together in a 1944 voter registration list in Oakland, Alameda County. Also together in 1943 at the same address listed in Polk's Oakland California City Directory.
William HOFFMAN is listed again as divorced at the time of his death in Napa County in 1970, but his residence was listed as the same Oakland address from when he was found with Hazel in 1943-1944.
I have checked Ancestry online records but I've not been able to come up with anything in marriage or divorce listings for these couples.
William would have been my late father's half-brother that he didn't know existed which also means I could have first-cousins our there somewhere.
Thanks for any leads or ideas on how to solve this mystery.
