Richard Wilhlem Meyer 78, passed away quietly in the home of his daughter on April 17, 2000 in Casa Grande, AZ. He moved to Casa Grande five years ago from Golden, CO.
Mr. Meyer was born in Byron Twp. IL the 8th son of Thomas Evert Meyer and Antonie Wilhelmina Marie Krüger Meyer on June 12, 1921.
He attended school in Cherry Valley and Rockford, IL. He entered the Civil Conservation Corp. at the age of 18 and was stationed in Mountain Home, ID. He was a volunteer fireman for the Rock River Fire District in Rockford.
In 1959, he moved his family to Twin Lakes, CO and then to Buena Vista, CO. He was an avid outdoors man and loved fishing and hunting. He belonged to the Byers No. 152 A.F.& A.M. and was a member of the Ironworker's Local #24 in Denver, CO.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Freville of Buena Vista, CO and his daughters, Gail [John] Meyer Kilgore of Casa Grande, AZ and Marilyn E. Vazquez of Buena Vista, CO, his two son's Richard [Michele] Wilhelm Meyer II of Glendale, AZ and Gerhardt [Allana} Karl Meyer of Lodi, OH. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Lynne Marie Dahl, Durango, CO; James Kevin Irwin, Loveland; Michael Patrick Irwin, Colorado Springs, CO; Richard Andrew Irwin, Twin Lakes, CO; William Shawn Irwin, Bagdad, AZ; Dawn Kristine Gabbard, Glendale, AZ; Richard Wilhelm Meyer III, El Mirage, AZ; Misty Rachelle Vazquez, Irvine, CA; Jaime Lynne Vazquez, Colorado Springs, CO; Eryn Martha Meyer, Littleton, CO and Lauryn Ann Meyer, Lodi, OH and 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Herman, Thomas, Arthur, Henry, Eberhardt, Herbert, Ernest and Edward and two sisters Anna and Katie.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. April 21, 2000 at the Oak Street Chapel at Oak Street and Gunnison in Buena Vista, CO. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Buena Vista, CO.
