Orval Martin, 80, of Loveland, formerly of Longmont, died of natural causes March 1, 2002, at his home.
He was born April 8, 1921, in Dalton, Neb., to Erwin and Effie Bratton Martin.
He was a decorated medical corpsman in the United States Navy during World War II. He was discharged from service July 5, 1946.
After serving in the military he continued in the medical field in California and Colorado.
In 1967, he began working for the St. Vrain Valley School District, where he worked until his retirement in 1987.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the IOF Foresters.
He created numerous pieces of art wodwork that his family and friends treasure.
He enriched the lived of his children, grandchildren and friends.
He is survived by: former wife Frances Elliott of Longmont; son Keith Martin and wife Gena of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughters Theresa Dirkes and husband Doug of Loveland and Patty Bias and husband Jim of Sequim, Wash.; three grandchildren including Paul and Lindsey Dirkes of Loveland.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, two sisters and daughter, Linda.
Funeral services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, at Lifebridge Christian Church, 10345 Ute Highway, in Longmont. Pastor David Bradshaw will officiate.
Interment Foothills Gardens of Memory.
The VFW will perform military graveside rites.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at Lifebridge Christian Church.
