Elizabeth “Betty” Burgstahler, 86, of Loveland died May 10, 2002, at North Shore Health Care Facility in Loveland.
She was born Jan. 23, 1916, in Los Angeles to Albert and Elizabeth Schweizer Otto.
She grew up and graduated from high school in Wasco, Calif. She received her bachelor’s degree in English from Laverne College in California in 1938.
She married Elmer Burgstahler on Jan. 1, 1942, in Wasco.
For many years, she and her family lived in North Dakota during the summers months and then spent the winter in Palm Springs, Calif. In 1968, the family moved to Colorado and in 1975 moved to Loveland. She had taught elementary and high school in California and Colorado.
She earned a master’s degree in educational media from the University of Northern Colorado in 1974.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Loveland. She enjoyed music, fishing, shuffleboard and travel. She spoke fluent German and in recent years studied Spanish.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer, of Loveland; two sons, Brian Burgstahler of Loveland and Alan Burgstahler of Seattle; two daughters, Marla Wieck of Loveland and Patrice Burgstahler of Hamburg, Germany; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by brothers Reinholdt Otto, Paul Otto and Ernest Otto.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Allnutt Funeral Chapel in Loveland. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society in care of Allnutt Funeral Service.
