Classification: Query
Surnames: Earp, Dunkley
The wife of Cullen R. Earp was Harriet Emeline Dunkley. She was born on May 6, 1827 in Fairfield Co, SC, the daughter of Green Berry Lee Dunkley and Izett Long. Her family moved to Fayette Co, TN in 1833 and on to Texas in 1839. She married in 1843 at age 16 to E. R. Vredenburgh in Nacogdoches Co, TX. By the 1850 census, she is married to Cullen R. Earp. She was widowed in October 1865 soon after Cullen returned from the Civil War. He was only 38 when he died. 15 years later, she married Arnold Milner in Rusk Co, TX, but he died soon after. Harriet Emeline died on March 2, 1909 and is buried in the Wright Cemetery in Henderson, Rusk Co, TX, near her sister Isetta Elizabeth Dunkley Wright. Harriet is listed in the 1900 census as having given birth to one child no longer living, but she is never listed with children in any census between 1850-1880 indicating that the child died an infant. Cullen and Harriet left no descendants. The child reported may even have been from her first marriage. Their childlessness may have allowed them to help the Castleberry children in 1859. I believe Cullen was probably their uncle.
