Birdie Schulke was living in Mesa County as of the 1930 census as a widow who worked as a mining camp cook. Some time after the census in 1930 she died and was buried in Grand Junction. I was told her death was the result of a jealous woman who shot her. The story goes: Birdie need supplies for the mining camp's kitchen and was offered a ride by one of the miners. When they got into town the miner's wife/girlfriend saw them and in a jealous rage murdered Birdie. There was a trial.
