I have been researching Roberts in Montrose Co but at an earlier time. Alphonzo Roberts married Lura Bell Davis in 1889 in Montrose County. My interest and relationship is in Lura's line, which has been very interesting because of it goes back into the Daniel Boone family, and presently I'm trying to trace the children and grandchildren of Alphonzo and Lura. Should your Russell Roberts be related to Alphonzo (or sometimes spelled Alfonzo)we might have information to share.

Cordially, Barbara "Bobby" Dobbins Title , Jurupa Valley, CA Snibbod1@aol.com.

Betty Jean Jacobsen Roberts and William Russell 'Russ' Roberts were my beloved grandparents. I would love to learn more about both of their families. Any information you have about Betty Jean Roberts' family would be greatly appreciated. You can contact me at lmroberts77@gmail.com

William Russell 'Russ' Roberts

Nov. 8, 1922 — May 2, 2011

MONTROSE — Lifelong resident and farmer, William Russell "Russ" Roberts, age 88, passed away early Monday evening, May 2, 2011, with his loving family by his side. Russ was born Nov. 8, 1922, in Montrose to Walter Scott and Pearlina (Marcum) Roberts. Russ spent his childhood in Montrose and attended school in Montrose as well.

On Dec. 31, 1944, Russ married the love of his life, Betty Jean Jacobsen, in Olathe, Colo.; they were blessed to celebrate 43 years of marriage. Betty preceded Russ in death on Feb. 5, 1988, in Grand Junction, Colo.

Russ farmed and ranched at Colona for over 50 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, picnicking, camping, fishing and hunting. During the colder months, he enjoyed Sunday dinners with his family. The 4th of July was an annual family reunion and horseshoe tournament that was greatly enjoyed by Russ every year. Russ enjoyed all the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. He so enjoyed watching them play and grow in his backyard.

Russ is survived by his sons: Donald Russell (Lois) Roberts of Meeker, Colo., David J. (Kathy) Roberts of Fruita, Colo., Daniel B. (Christy) Roberts of Golden, Colo., Roy Chris Roberts of Lakewood, Colo., Keith Lee (Dawn) Roberts of Montrose; one brother, Con (Alice) Roberts; and three sisters: Maynora Schmidt, Margaret (Les) Cook and Verlee Wilkes, all of Montrose. Russ is also survived by 13 precious grandchildren and 19 adored great-grandchildren. Russ is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty; one son, Steven William Roberts; as well as his brothers, Henry, Ern, Huck and Ray Roberts; and his sisters, Ethel Anders and Edith Russell.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2011, at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service, in loving memory of Russ, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011, at the Montrose Christian Church, with Pastor Robert Pulliam officiating. Interment will take place following the service at Grand View Cemetery, west of Montrose.

I'm looking for an obit or death notice for Gladys Priscilla. Wagner whose maiden name was Burton. Gladys may have gone by a nickname "Hettie" Born 2 Jan. 1915, Wilmington, NC to Katie and Samuel L. Burton. I have not been able to determine spouse's name.

Here's the mystery: Died on 10 Oct. 1996 in Buena Park, Orange County, California but SSDI shows last benefit was sent to Montrose, Montrose county, Colorado. If she was visiting in Buena Park, Orange County, California..I doubt if there had been a death notice in Orange County newspapers.

My guess is that "Hettie" or Gladys had been a resident of Montrose, Colorado and had been visiting a relative in Orange County when she died? Or maybe she moved after last SS check went to old address in Colorado.

What newspaper was in business in Montrose, Colorado in 1996?

I may be all wrong with my theory and I may doing a wild goose chase but have to try. I don't give up easy.

Any other suggestions?

Emma (Monroe?) Berry

Ok, I've spent a year on this one and am no further so I'm sending out an SOS!

I have a relative whose maiden name is Emma (Monroe?) Berry. She married my GG-Grandfather Commodore Silas Wolfe in March 1900 around Montrose County. They lived there and in San Miguel. She divorced him 1924 and moved on to a Calvin 'Ira' A. Shores. They lived in Washington and then Oregon where he died in 1932. Finally she married Alma Chesnut in Utah and settle in Sacramento, California where she lated died soon after Alma in 1959.

I have her history down fairly well from her first marriage on but her childhood and family of origin are a complete mystery. I can't link her to anyone anywhere.

The best information I have is that on her death certificate it lists her mother's maiden name as McKay and father's name as Berry. On the census data her date and place of birth are pretty fluid. As for date there's Oct 1879 and for a place there's either Pennsylvania or Colorado. Her father might be from England or Colorado, and her mother might be from France or just United States. No idea if she has siblings. Also no idea if she was married to another person with the last name Sterling or Monroe. She was busy.

If you have any information please send me a message or email!

There are other people in genealogy circles that have made a hobby of finding old photos and returning them to family members. The going rate is usually $20+ and I have been glad to pay that myself a couple of times. In the case of this Walter Whittmyer photo, I found it in my father-in-law's stuff so I didn't have to spend money and time looking for it. I know we are not family connected. I will let a family member have it for packaging and postage, say, $5 and some assurance that they are a family member. Thanks for asking.

I really enjoyed reading the info about Marilyn Monroe. I hadn't followed out Edward's line past finding him in his wife's family's home in Montrose. I therefore missed that very important detail about his son James marrying Marilyn! ;) I continuously marvel over the people at River Portal. I have really enjoyed doing research on these families. I'm not sure what info people researching this line have & what they still need. I'll help if I can.

Hi...I got your Ancestry email about your husband's DOUGHERTY line, and you had noticed that I was helping on a DOUGHERTY tree.

Yes, I did do some research on the Thomas H. line to see if I could track it back and find any kinship to a DAUGHERTY / Dougherty, Dorrity line that links to my maternal McLAIN line that was in KY,TN and into MO, AR too. What I found is that your husband's line came from Ireland later than the line that married into my McLAIN family.

However, it was very interesting to track the family. I became interested while my husband and I were watching the old "River of No Return Film," with Robert Mitchum and Marilyn Monroe. I searched the film on the web and discovered that Marilyn (Norma Jean) had a 1st husband named DOUGHERTY born in Los Angeles, CA in 1921. I easily found him in his father Edward's household in 1930 and managed to track the family back to West VA area, found them in Kansas on State census too. I could have done more searches, but when I was satisfied it wasn't part of my tree, I stopped.

If you found my comments on one of two trees I found, then you have the various census data I included in the comments. HOpe it helps you.
Hi cousin Amanda, thanks for your reply

As I stated before, Laura Temple was the daughter of Thomas Jefferson Temple, my husband's g g grandfather. Just last year, we found Thomas's cremains in the Oregon State Hospital and had them shipped to us (he died in 1919...so he was there a long time!) Because he was a civil war veteran, we had a civil war reenactment group hold a funeral for him.
google this web site for photos:

Thomas Jefferson Temple laid to Rest 61stOVI. By: Patti Schaeffer; Created on July 12, 2010;

I have the Temple side of your genealogy if you want it. I can send you a copy and some photos of your gg grandpa and Laura's half brother. Is Laura buried in Montrose? Do you have photos of her or her sister or parents? I would be happy to exchange info!

Waiting to hear from you!
My email is asaptemple@woh.rr.com

Suzanne Latham Temple

Harry Donald Galloway is my Great Grandfather, his son, Alva Hamilton Galloway is my Grandfather. Alva grew up on the Galloway cattle ranch, he was doing a lot of family research, I would be very interested in anything you have found.
Amanda

I am looking for any information about this woman, Wanda Lee Simpson. She was my great grandmother. According to O'Dell's Abstracted Newspaper Page of Taylor County Iowa, she died in 1933 and was married to David Steward Shewey.

However, according to my uncle, she was born 14 Aug 1911 and died 27 Jun 1971, both in Montrose, Colorado. His records say she got married on 29 May 1933 in Salem Oregon.

Can anyone help me?

Raymond Davis, b CO 1900, d CO 1989

Anyone here know of a Raymond Davis, b Olath, Montrose, CO, in April 1900, died there 5 Jan 1989? He was married in abt 1972, wife name Melida (or similar, as appears in 1930 census), may have had son Richard born in the 1930s. I am fairly confident I can trace this Davis line back to the 1700s NY, if anyone can help me find descendants it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Richard
