STOVER
Albert R. "Bud" Stover, 73, lifetime resident of Manzanola, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center in La Junta.
Funeral services will be at the Manzanola Christian Church at 10 a.m., today (Thursday), Aug. 17, with the Rev. John Dell officiating. Burial with military honors by the Manzanola American Legion Post #168 will follow in Mountainview Cemetery in Manzanola.
Grandsons and nephews will serve as casket bearers. Music will be provided by B. J. Thomas and Keith Waggoner.
Mr. Stover was born Feb. 13, 1927 in Rocky Ford to Jarold V. and Naomi Rudy Gobin Stover. He graduated from Manzanola High School in 1945. He served in the Army during World War II.
He married Alice Sutton of Fowler on July 2, 1949. The Stover family has been involved in the insurance and real estate business in the Manzanola area for over 50 years.
Mr. Stover was very involved in the community. He was a member of the Manzanola Christian Church, served as president of the Manzanola School Board for over 13 years, was Commander of American Legion Post #168, member of the Masonic Lodge, charter member of the Manzanola Lions Club, member of the Knights of Phythias, served on the Otero County Housing Authority, served on the Manzanola Town Council, and served as secretary of the Catlin Canal Co. He also helped with the town's summer recreation program for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Alice, of the family home; sons Jim Stover of Manzanola, Ed (Paula) Stover of Lamar, Tom (Luann) Stover of Montrose and Richard (Mary) Stover of Normal, Ill.; daughters Cheryl (Daryl) Grasmick of Rocky Ford, Pam (Jerry) Morroney of Pueblo and Lisa (Del) Walton of Pueblo; brother Jarold (JoAnn) Stover of Manzanola; 25 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Lois Jean Bauman and Pat Ingram.
The family prefers memorials to the Manzanola Christian Church or to any civic organizations he was involved in.

Funeral services for Albert R. "Bud" Stover, 73, lifetime Manzanola resident, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church in Manzanola with Pastor John Dell officiating. Burial with military honors by Manzanola Americal Legion Post #168 will follow at Mountainview Cemetery.
Music will be by B.J. Thomas, organist, and Keith Waggoner, vocalist.
Casket bearers will be grandsons and nephews.
Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Griffy Family Funeral Home Chapel in Fowler.
Mr. Stover died Monday at Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 13, 1927, in Rocky Ford, to Jarold V. and Naomi Ruby Gobin Stover.
He graduated from Manzanola High School with the Class of 1945, and worked for the Libby canning factory in his youth.
He served in the Army in Italy during World War II. After his discharge in 1947, Mr. Stover went to work in J. N. Beaty Bank. Soon after, he started working at Beaty Agency, selling real estate and insurance, and preparing tax returns. After Mr. Beaty's death, he bought the business. The Stover family was involved with insurance and real estate in Manzanola for more than 50 years.
Mr. Stover was very involved with the Manzanola community.
He was a member of the Manzanola Christian Church, and was a long time member of Manzanola school board, serving as president for 13 years, and presenting each of his seven children his or her diploma; commander of American Legion Post #168, member of Masonic Lodge; charter member of Manzanola Lions Club; member of Knight of Pythias; member of Otero County Housing Authority; former member of Manzanola town council; and served as secretary of the Catlin Canal Company and Vroman Water Company.
He helped with Manzanola summer recreation for many years, and with other Lions and community members, helped build the back stop at the town's baseball field.
He is survived by his wife, Alice, of the family home; four sons, Jim Stover of Manzanola, Ed (Paula) Stover of Lamar, Tom (Luann) Stover of Montrose, Richard (Mary) Stover of Normal, IL; three daughters, Cheryl (Daryl) Grasmick of Rocky Ford, Pam (Jerry) Marroney of Pueblo, and Lisa (Del) Walton of Pueblo; one brother, Jarold (JoAnn) Stover of Manzanola; brothers in law, Elmer Bauman and John Sutton; sister in law, Anne Lou Kimble and Ruth McGown; 25 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Lois Jean Bauman and Pat Ingram.
Memorials may be made to Manzanola Christian Church.
