Eugene V. “Gene” Krogmeier, 71, of Loveland, died January 26, 1998, at his home.

He was born November 22, 1926 in Fort Madison, Iowa, to Alois Krogmeier and Elva P. Greene Krogmeier. He married Mary Burkett on June 13, 1947 in Fort Madison.

He was a graduate of Fort Madison High School and attended one year of college at Regis and one year at the University of Colorado. He moved to Loveland in 1969.

Gene and Mary lived in the Amherst area during the 1950s and worked for George and Margaret Brinkema until he took full time employment with the Great Western Sugar Company.

He worked as a shift superintendent at the Great Western Sugar Company for 33 years, retiring in 1987. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He loved reading, gardening and fishing.

He is survived by wife Mary Krogmeier, Loveland; sons Michael E. Krogmeier and friend Sue Burnett, and Gary D. Krogmeier and wife Cathy, all of Loveland; daughters Debbie Grant and husband Bill of Alabaster, Alabama, Nancy Wilson and husband Wayne of Norfolk, Nebraska, Marilyn Walter and husband Chris, Mary Skipworth and husband Bob, and Barbara Schleiger and husband Curt, all of Loveland; brothers Vincent L. and Jackie of Holyoke, Bill and wife Elvira of Amherst, and Phillips of Seattle, Washington; sisters Betty Kafka and Dolores M. Haskell and husband Leon, all of Holyoke, and Shirley F. Krogmeier of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren; one great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Alois “Tom” Krogmeier and Joseph Krogmeier.

Visitation was Wednesday and Thursday at Allnutt-Hunter Chapel.

Rosary and funeral Mass was Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Pavlakovich officiating.
