Experience (1756-1847), wife of John COFFEY (abt 1750-1818), may be Experience NYE, b. April 30, 1755 or (more likely) Oct. 30, 1756 in Sandwich, Barnstable Co., MA to Benjamin NYE (1697-1790) and his second wife, Rachel FOSTER (1716-1763) (IGI records). Two of Experience NYE's siblings also moved from Sandwich to Lee, Berkshire Co., MA. They were Levi NYE (1743-1845), whose land evidently adjoined John and Experience COFFEY's in Lee (where they lived ca. 1781-1784), and Remember NYE (1761-1828), who m. Cornelius BASSETT (1754-1841) and had (among others) Rachel BASSETT (1799-1870), who married John COFFEY, Jr. (1784-1861) -- son of John and Experience COFFEY and apparently her own first cousin. Also, Experience named one of her daughters Rachel -- probably after her mother (Rachel FOSTER) and/or her younger sister, Rachel (NYE) SPOONER (b. 1759).
It would be nice to see if Benjamin NYE left a will mentioning a daughter Experience (NYE) COFFEY, but as she is rumored to have eloped with John, he may have omitted her. Has anyone seen Benjamin's will, or other evidence for or against this Experience NYE hypothesis?
