Glenn Bacon s/o Bert Bacon s/o Corydon Bacon s/o Corydon Bacon s/o Damon Bacon s/o Philemon Bacon s/o Levi Bacon. I am trying to find more proof other than location.
My mother, Barbara Louise Thomas was born in Hartford, CT in 1918 and had a sister Florence, who married Larry Melville. He served in the Air Force during World War II. His father was a minister. His mother, who I knew as Nana, was living in the Methodist Home in Hartford in the 1940's and was widowed. After Larry returned from the war he divorced Florence. It is my understanding he subsequently remarried and had a number of children. My mother's father was Frank Thomas of Hartford, CT and he was married to Mabel(?) Scott who was from Bloomfield CT. I believe she had died before Larry married Florence. A number of the Scott family still live in Bloomfield. I never heard Larry referred to by any other name, but I only saw him a few times as a very young child.

See http://archive.org/stream/recordsofcongreg00east#page/42/mod...

David and Jonathan Higley were members. Several Higley babies are recorded. Hope this helps someone

Re: German Lutheran Church Hartford 1860's

I checked the Hartford Courant, the "Evangelical Lutheran church" in Hartford formed in July 1880, Rev L. E. Schneider was made pastor. They expressed an indebtedness to the "Pearl Street Congregational Church" of Hartford for assistance rendered. The Pearl Street Congregational Church formed in 1852, perhaps Hartford Lutherans of the 1860s used that church.

The earliest mention I could find of an Evangelical Lutheran church forming in Connecticut was the Germans of Waterbury, New Haven County established one in Nov 1860, Rev Mr. Klaus was made pastor. Another early one was in Norwich, New London County about 1866, they laid the cornerstone for their church edifice in 1869.

It's quite possible that their were others but I couldn't find mention of them in the Courant.

If it is of any interest to you, I found a Sep 1907 probate notice for a John G. Kiedeisch of Glastonbury, total valuation was $18,527 of real estate and bank deposits.
Thanks so much. The "Pearl Street Congregational Church" gives me a place to start. John was in Glastonbury in 1859 and married Anna 1863 or 64, but not in Glastonbury, so I thought Hartford was my best guess as it might have had a church with a German speaking minister.

I think I have the probate notice of John K; I did go to the state library and get a copy of his will. Thank you for looking though, and for the information on the churches.
Lynn

Does anyone know if there was a Lutheran Church in Hartford with a German speaking minister in the 1860's. I've searched but can't find one that far back. I think my great grandparents, Johann Georg Kiedaisch and Anna Dorthea Rommel might have married in Hartford; I'm assuming they would have wanted a German ceremony. If not a Lutheran Church, then just a German speaking one? Thanks so much.
Lynn

Hi Linda:

My grandparents, Carlo and Carmella Testa migrated from Nicosia in the late 1890's. They had ten children, 7 daughters and 3 sons. The sons were Mariano, Sam and Philip (my Dad). I understand Papa had a relative back East (Ct) who had three sons and his sons were named after them. All ten children are now deceased. My Dad was the ninth child. All children were raised in Chicago. The oldest cousin is now 80 and the youngest, my sister Gina is 46.

Greetings,

Found your post rather interesting. My g-g-g grandmother was a Dickinson who married Gurney who had a dau. who married a Oefinger (my gradmother). I belong to the Dickinson Family Association and have both books on their history. It states that the Dickinson Family is descended from Ivar, Prince of the Uplands in Norway. The first of my direct line to come to the "New World" was Nathaniel Dickinson who came as paert of the Cambridge Company in 1630. If you would like mor information I would be glad to share

William R. Oefinger
I didn't find anything in the Historical Hartford Courant except in 1805 an Ethan Curtis was on an unclaimed letter list at the post office in Farmington, CT, it indicates that his residence was in Bristol, CT.

But...I now see from the attached that apparently the Ethan Curtis family, you are concerned with, removed to Ohio as early as 1808. Found the excerpted text in the following book:

A genealogy of the Curtiss-Curtis family of Stratford, Connecticut. Compiled by: Harlow Dunham Curtis
Stratford, Conn :: Curtiss-Curtis Society, 1953, 609 pgs.
page 63

I am not related.
I am looking for vital records for Ethan A. Curtis (1783-1833) or his wife Anna Sedgwick (1782-1809). They were both born in the Bristol or Burlington area. They married in that same area on January 1, 1805. Anna died their in 1809. Ethan A. remarried to Aurelia Strong on June 4, 1810. I found Ethan A. or his father on the 1790, 1800, and 1810 census. I have never found any vital records for any of the people already listed nor any of their children. I am also looking for any records on them, specifically the son of Ethan A. and Anna Sedgwick, Nelson Sedgwick Curtis born on September 3, 1806.

I have checked the Barbour Collection, with no luck.

Any help would be wonderful.

Hi

I was just searching online for this Photographer as I have an old Photo with 'Dunne, 212 Asylum St, Hartford, CT' on it and I found this post.

I'm from Northern Ireland so this has both helped and confused me as to the identity of the person in the Photograph.

Thanks very much for the details!

Darryn

Re: "Mr. Patten's School"

Yes, I do.. Mr. Patten is William Patten, son of William and Ruth Wheelock Patten, and grandson of Dr. Eleazar Wheelock of Dartmouth College fame. The school started with William's sisters teaching girls. When William Jr. completed his college education at Dartmouth, under his grandfather's watchful eye, he joined his sisters and expanded the school to include young gentlemen. This is recorded in the book, "Memoirs of Ruth Patten," by William Patten Jr., Hartford 1834. The book is a tribute to his mother, and is very compelling. You can find it on Google Books.
