Have been tracking this Ashford, CT, couple for a while and cannot determine Jemima's death date and place. In 1800 the couple is still living in Ashford, where they married, and have four of their six children. By 1810 Ephraim is living in Rush, Susquehanna Co., PA, with another woman, b ca. 1785, with whom he appears to live the rest of his life. He is buried in the Snyder-Rush cemetery. Some say Jemima dies in 1804, which would explain Ephraim's remarriage. But where is Jemima's grave? And why does he not take his by then six children to Pennsylvania? Others say Jemima died in 1824. Again, where is her grave, and was she deserted? [The 1810 Ashford Jemima Knowlton on the census is another Jemima, mother of John, not the one under discussion.] Ephraim's second wife was named Sarah, surname unknown, and she is buried with him as his wife in Pennsylvania in 1870. The 1860 census says she was born in Connecticut also.
