I also have information of the collateral lines of McCauleys.

David Smith married (2) Elizabeth Ryan, Rion. This is my direct line and I could sure use some help with it.
Marcy

How would you like to do this? I would love to review what you have and I would be glad to give you what I have so far. I'm still fixing the duplicates in my tree and have to delete them out and get it flowing right, so right now, if you look at the tree start with Jacqueline Marie Fleetwood (me) and that path is all correct.

Jackie

For a history project, I am seeking information on Stansbury Jacobs Willey. If anyone knows more about him, for example, his parents' names, etc., I would appreciate the information. One source says that he was born on his father's farm in Sussex in 1845. I have nothing on his mother.
Thanks,
Bill

Dear Marcy,

I would be very interested in your 5 generations of Spicers. My line originated in Dorchester County, MD. Some moved to Sussex, DE. I've tracked them all over the USA but there appears to be some who I may have missed in northern DE and I can't connect them to the Sussex Spicers because of the 1890 break in censuses and because of the commonly used first names.

Thanks,

Dan Spicer

I know nothing of the Fleetwoods, but I do have a Catherine E. Spicer in my lineage. She was born in 1919,probably in Wilmington, the daughter of Ida Mildred McCauley and Otis Spicer. The McCauley line is mine, so I haven't done any research on the Spicer line, but can go back 5 generations beyond Ida.
Do you think this is the same Catherine Spicer that you mentioned?

Marcy Gilmore

I
am on a hunt for information on any of the Willeys who lived in Sussex in
both the 1700 and 1800 .... I am of the firm belief that they are all
connected and probably connected to the Willeys of Dorchester ...... Knowing
that there are a multitude of Willeys in Bridgeville and surrounding
territory which ones are you chasing ?? Sorry but no information of
Zachariah
Carol
Hi, I'm looking for more information on a David R. Smith and his wife Mary E. Smith. They had at least three children: Sarah E. (born 1835); Edward B. (1837), and Phillip W. (1839).

They are on the 1840 census in Broadkill Hundred, Delaware. There were three other daughters that I do not have names for.

In 1850 Mary E. is living with her three children in Georgetown, Sussex, Delaware. David had died by then.

In 1860, Phillip had married a Martha R. Unknown.
In 1860, Edward R. was living in a Boarding House with families named Jefferson, Layton, Carey, Short, Godwin, Akeman and Carpenter.

I have not found who Sarah married nor can I find Edward after 1860.

In the 1870 census Philip is living with William S. Short and Mary Jefferson (from the 1860 census) in Georgetown Hundred. Phillip died in 1874.

I have a picture of Philip's tombstone:

Dr. Philip W. Smith, Son of David R. and Mary E. Smith, born April 9, 1839. Departed this life Sep. 18, 1873 - Gone by not forgotten.

Does anyone have extra information on this family.

Thanks,

Joni

Hi, Joni. Dagsborough (the spelling, at the time, of that town/village's name) was in its own hundred, Dagsborough Hundred. It wasn't part of Nanticoke Hundred - or at least it wasn't in 1868. (I have no idea about years previously.)

The nearest other hundreds to the portion of Dagsborough Hundred that the town or village of Dagsborough fell within were Indian River Hundred and Baltimore Hundred. (Each began a similar distance away: around three miles.) The nearest adjacent portion of Nanticoke Hundred, that you've mentioned, to Dagsborough Hundred began a much greater distance from where Dagsborough was located within Dagsborough Hundred - like around 12 or miles away. So, in this case, I don't think the Beers Atlas Nanticoke Hundred map is going to be of any relevant usefulness to you.

Hoping this will help some.

Dave

Thanks, David!

I think I am looking at the 1868 Nanticoke Beers Map, and it is good, but for some reason, it doesn't show Dagsboro. It shows it written down the side so I will probably have to go to the Delaware State Archives.

John Smith's land was in Dagsboro about 1855. He went to Fenwick Island 1859-1861. In 1862 John was still in Baltimore Hundred, and in 1865 his land in Dagsboro was seized and sold. I'm trying to find more info on who was living in the house when it was sold and who was living around it.

Joni

I have a booklet "Baptism and Marriage Records of the Sound Church" that I was given by a Mr. Collins, that lists births and marriages of southern Sussex Co., DE, of that time frame. I can email you an electronic "pdf" copy. (I had it posted on the Internet a few years ago, but someone complained that because it was printed matter it is copyrighted, and should not be made public, so I took it off.) William O.
I found my g-g grandfather's Lewis Paynter's obit in the Wilminton Journal in 1884. I thought he was born in New Castle Co....but apparently he was born of "poor means" in Sussexx.... In 1850 I assume ghis parents were living with him John and Rebecca. Lewis was a Wilmington City councilman... and had a sister Hannah.. I see there were more well to do Paynter's in Sussex...so I am not sure the relation. Here's his obit:

http://o.mfcreative.com/f1/exports/8/8c8f8126-7155-4f16-90bb...

Mike Thompson
mt7676@aol.com
917-733-9938

Hi. You specifically mentioned the 1860-1865 period. An excellent resource for just a few years later is the Beers Atlas maps, made in 1868, that show each Hundred in the State of Delaware, on individual maps. These maps indicate who all the land owners were, and you can see proximity of properties (or at least of land owners) to one another. While a map such as this may not help you with the precise span of years that you asked about, the Dagsborough Hundred map from that Beers Atlas map series may very well show some of what you want to know. This resource could easily come in very handy if you already know who some related, and/or neighbouring, families were, as hopefully at least some of them would appear on the map. The Beers Atlas maps are available from the Delaware State Archives. They'll gladly make and mail you photocopies (for a copying and mailing charge, of course).

Hoping this suggestion will prove of some help.

Best regards,

Dave Wilson

I am trying to get on the parents of Sirman McAllister. It is my understanding that his mother (possibly Charity White) passed away from complications of child birth. He was left in the care of his grandparents Phillip & Mary White. Later he stayed with his uncle and aunt, William & Edith White possibly in Millsboro. I can find no records concerning the McAllisters except census records confirming that he lived with the above relatives. Does anyone have any information that could help?

Unfortunately I don't know what their church affiliation was.

The online images of their WWI draft registrations unfortunately don't show up - the images are blank. Doesn't that just figure?

The two whose names and dates I know for sure are:

Howard Rufus Wells born June 25, 1886

Harvey M. Wells born March 18, 1890

Their mother was Mary A. Lippincott of New Jersey, and I THINK their father was Charles Wells. He apparently died before 1900 and I have yet to find him in any census, so I'm really trying to find something proving his name.

I would appreciate any suggestions anyone can offer.

If you know their religion, you MIGHT possibly find church records of a christening. If they registered for the service in World War 1, their birthdates should be listed on those records. If you have names, I would be willing to look.
