Looking for additional information on Malachi Hagin, b. 788, d. ?. The Malachi I am researching was born in either NC or GA. He is listed in the Bullock County, GA. census in 1810 and 1820. He is listed as an executor in his Brother's will (John Hagin 1776-1822) dated 1822 and there is noted as being in Camden County, GA. I find no more GA census for this Malachi but his son Malachi shows up in the 1840 through 1870 census in Bullock and Tattnall County. My theory is that Malachi went to Florida as I find a Malachi in Duval County, FL in the 1830 and 1840 census as well as the 1826 Alachua County census. Alachua was created from Duval County. There is a Malachi Hagan of Alachua County
listed as the filer of a claim against Congress for lost property during the Seminole Indian War, both for livestock lost to the Indians in 1835 and 1836 as well as claims for property burned by the US Army as they retreated. They burned the property to avoid the Indians getting it. So, I am hoping someone can supply evidence to support or deny this theory. I find no Malachi listed after the 1840 census, so there is some assumption he passed away prior to 1850. I also know that his Brother-in-Law Giles ellis was in Alachua County in the 1840's and have seen one note that Mr. Ellis is buried in Ellis Cemetery in Alachua.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
