(except for census info, thanks but have that!)

I know for fact she was married on 6/11/1890 to George W. Johns.
She was born around June 10, 1872.
Died around Apr 22, 1948.
In Florida - I believe Highlands Co.

She is my kin.
I have seen all of these spellings for her name.
"Voroqua", "Veroqua", "Vira", "Viraqua" and "V.E. Johns"

Sullivan, Mary Elizabeth (Beth) passed away March 22, 2008, at The Woodside Hospice House in Pinellas Park, FL. A 7th generation Floridian, born on May 16, 1947; she was raised in Avon Park. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Elizabeth Sullivan, her beloved grandmother Alice Oliver Sherman, and other relatives. She is survived by her brother, Leonard (Mariann) Sullivan of Inglis, FL; her nephews, Brian (Angela) Sullivan of Clearwater, FL and Gary (Pam) Sullivan of Trinity, FL; her uncle Dr. Charles D. Sherman Jr. of Rochester, NY; her cousin Winifred Whitehurst of Avon Park, FL; and many other close relatives and friends. She was also the beloved daughter-in-law of Stephen and Irene Beck of Clearwater, FL. She graduated from Avon Park High School in 1965 and earned a BA in Business Admin. and an MA in Education from USF. She also held many certifications. Beth started her career at Florida Power Corporation and worked her way up to be a certified corporate employee trainer. She held positions within Franklin Templeton and Raymond James as a consultant in employee training. She was an instructor at St. Petersburg College. Later she worked for The Transportation Security Administration training National Airport Security Personnel. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and therefore loved her. Visitation will be held April 19th from 12pm - 1pm at The Fountain Funeral Home (507 US 27 N.) followed by a graveside memorial service at Bougainvillea Cemetery in Avon Park, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Hospice of the Florida Suncoast, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd., Clearwater, FL 33760 or to The Humane Society, 3040

Floyd and Mary Ann Floyd (his wife) that begin in 1830 and end in 1890s at their last location in Green Cove Springs, FL. Richard also had a family record he kept that has birth, deaths and marriages dating back to the 1600s. I will be glad to address any questions asked.

I am hoping someone may be able to help me locate copy of obituary of Bernadine Elizabeth (Gregg) Ames who passed away Nov 7, 2006 in Avon, Highlands Co., FL, widow of Lauren Glen Ames. I believe there was an obituary in the Tampa Tribune on Nov 8 2005. Unfortunately, the Tribune site only keeps obits online for 12 months, so I just missed being able to access this by less than 3 weeks. I am trying to determine if Bernadine Elizabeth Ames is daughter of Samuel Joseph Gregg and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Gregg, born in Marshall County, WV betw 1912-1913. I cannot find any trace of her after 1920 census. But this Bernadine Elizabeth Gregg is the right age and might be a match. Thanks in advance for any help on this.

My husband's grandfather was "Harley North" or Harlee or Harlan North. We know little about him. He was born in Florida. We are sure that he lived in Highland County around 1927. He had two daughters with Orrie Lee Rivers of this area. One girl was born February 6, 1927. We do not know if there was a marriage. Orrie was the daughter of Julie and Jeff Rivers. One of my sailors was a Hollice Beuaford Henderson and I have traced his brother to Venus, Highlands, FL. His names was Graves Henderson and he died Mar 20, 1988.

I am looking for information on the burial of a Joyce Ryan. She died in Lake Placid on March 30, 1991. The services were private and handled by the Scott Funeral Home in Lake Placid.

Would someone be able to contact them and find a date and place of burial for me? My other option would be to contact the agency that would handle the death certificate in the county and ask them. Usually they will let you know that information as it has no bearing on their identity.

I live out of state, and would very much like a photo and a copy of an obituary, if possible. I know my kin was buried in the "new" section of the cemetery, closest to the funeral home. The grave was one of the 1st ones in the new section when my kin passed away, 2004. I do not want to ask my family there, as I do not want to cause them any further pain as this was a child.

GIBBS, Jean Lacefield, 85, formerly of Avon Park, Fla., passed away Saturday, October 1, 2005, in Altamonte Springs, Fla. Jean was a devoted wife for 57 years to the late James T. Gibbs, Jr. and a loving mother and grandmother. She and JT moved to Avon Park in 1959 and were active members of the community in business, social and civic realms. Jean owned Victorian Antiques and Gibbs Gift and Office Supply Store in Avon Park, she had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Avon park, she was in the local chapters of the Red Hat Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Garden Club. Jean will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her children, James T. and Ileana Gibbs, III of Antigua, Guatemala, Bretta Ann and Hunt Bowers of Frederick, Md., Charlotte and Bob (Gibbs) Hattaway of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; grandchildren, Kimberly Gibbs-Musgrave and James Scott Gibbs; great-grandson, Joshua David Musgrave; brother, William and Janice Lacefield. I am trying to find out where Dr. Charles Weigle is buried. I have been told that he was buried in Sebring, Florida after having spent the last 15 years of his life in Chattanooga, Tennessee where he died on December 3, 1966 at age 95.
Dr Weigle was a well known evangelist and wrote the well known song, No One Ever Cared For Me Like Jesus.

And the telegram says that she was buried above ground, another oddity for the times. Any ideas? Sincerely appreciate any leads.

the Lake Placid Journal published several articles about the early history of Venus which included a picture of a Community Church with a large crowd standing in front. My grandparents, James J. and Kate Hendry and seven of their children are in this photo. Does anyone have an original or copy of this photo that they would be willing to share. My grandparents and children lived in Venus between 1908 and 1914, when they moved to Lakeport.

In June of 1983 there was a Carl Lawhead living in Highlands County probably in Sebring. His SSDI record states his card was issued in PA. I would like to communicate with any of his decendents who may be able to verify that Frank Lawhead was his father. Frank was an uncle of my father and we have lost contact with any of Frank's decendents. Frank is buried in the Centre Methodist cemetery in Clearfield county PA.

He received the Bronze Star for Valor & numerous other military awards & honors. Most recently, he was employed by Richland Two School District at the Pontiac Elementary School.

He lived in Frostproof, FL. until him and his wife were involved in an automobile accident in which she was killed. Her name was Vera Speed Weaver. He sold his house or I heard donated it to the church and went to live in a nursing home but I do not know where. I think the year would have been between 1971-79. His father's name was P.A.
