Jarvis Jackson Frier married Mary Caroline Toole, widow of John G Phillips, after Jackson's wife, Frances V Revels passed away c 1900-1902. Your Uncle Harvie is correct.

I am looking for Indianna S. Waters, daughter of Emanuel Waters. They lived in Lafayette County in 1870 and she was not on the 1880 census in Alachua County with the rest of the family. At about 1880 she would have been 19 or 20 and I am assuming she may have married in Lafayette County. So, I guess what I need is a marriage record for her.

I strongly believe that Tishie Mott married John D. Deloach in Bronson, Fla, Levy County on March 2, 1911. I have a copy of the Marriage License. There are a lot twists and turns that occur as well. I a desperately trying to find out info prior to my great aunt passing.. She is the daughter of Tisha (last living sibling). Thanks in advance. By the way, who was your father? Hello - Do you have any papers related to Sheriff Stephen Grant? My great grandfather was a voter registrar in Lafayette County circa 1867. He was a justice of the peace and sheriff in Madison a year or so later. He is listed in a book titled "Florida's Black Public Officials," but the book, nor Madison records, show him as a sheriff. His name was Morris M. Sampson, born 1834 in N.C. He also was a black man, although some say he looked caucasian. He was hanged circa 1883 in Madison, probably because he was registering blacks to vote. If anyone has old records, newspaper articles, etc., that I can refer to, please let me know. I live in the Washington DC area and cannot get to the Florida records.

Yes, however we have no dates and no headstone... only records reflecting he was buried there. I have tried to research it also and only found varying dates and names. Wish I could help! I will dig a little more.

This family seems to have come from Randolph Co., GA and Terrell Co., Georgia before coming to Florida.

Very helpful! I believe that this is not the John McCullough that we are looking for. Ours was a John F. McCullough, sometimes seen as John F. McCollough and Jho McCullough. He lived in Madison, FL and fought in the Civil War, returning to Madison afterwards. His widow, Joan McDaniel McCullough, filed for FL CW widow's pension, showing he died in Lafayette County of dropsy. He might have just been in the county when he died and still resided in Madison or Lee, FL (his widow lived in Lee as did some of his sons). It is possible that the John B. McCullough could be his son. Thanks for your help.

You wouldn't happen to have info on John McCullough, buried in Cooks Hammock (I think that is the name of it>) would you? We believe this might be a missing GGrandfather who died in Lafayette County, probably 1874, 1875 or 1877. We have 3 different dates on the Civil War Pension Applications.

I just came across this so it is probably out of date but I knew Evander Riggs. He had a store in Suwannee Countym at the intersecton of US 27 and SR 129. I used to thumb a ride between Gainesville and Mayo during college days and he once gave me a coca cola one hot afternoon.

Yes, that is the cemetery. Yes, he is buried there -- but there is no date listed for him. All the book says is "CSA" for John B. Mccullough.

For what it is worth (and it may be worth nothing)

I checked the marriage records and there was a John Mccullough who married a Isabel Barber on 8 July in 1873. The book number is A-163 if you want to request a copy.

I failed to note that I attended 3rd grade, Mrs. Witt was my teacher, in 1952-53, in the older schoolhouse. For several years, during that span of time, we used the old building for 3rd and 4th grades. We would walk back to the new building for special events, and were bussed to and from lunch.
Lordy, I do miss the 1939-40 building!! Especially the auditorium. The new school is woefully inadequate, compared to the old one, at least to me.
I confess...I don't like changes...but the lay-out of that building was SO superior to the lay-out of the new ones...

Thossie and Shelby were my Daddy's uncles (my grand-uncles) and J B was my Daddy's cousin! What were they like?

My grand-dad was Thossie and Shelby's brother, Bob. Bob, as you probably know, had some problems and wasn't around much.

Can you contact me with more information please? I have a lot of questions and curiousity about what my Dad's family was like. Everyone I've met or talked to has been so nice.

Robert and Elizabeth Leggett from Suwannee County, are also my Great-great grandparents. Wesley Leggett was my Great Grandfather, he had a daughter Callie (my grandmother) who died when my father was 3, trying to find any information I can on this family... Thanks :)
